Chapter 7
- Jessica's POV
- "Let's stop arguing, Jessica. Go home and put our house back together again, okay? I'll pretend I never saw this divorce agreement," Zander said, looking at me with the same tenderness as before.
- There was a slight smile on his lips.
- I had once found his smile deadly sexy, but now I found it bitterly ironic.
- "Zander, you're pathetic," I said, looking at him sympathetically.
- His smile disappeared and he suppressed his anger and said in a low voice, "Even if you're my wife, you should watch your words. Stop provoking me."
- "In fact, I have decided to give up the title of Mrs. Harrison," I said, spreading my hands and shrugging.
- Approaching him, I picked up the divorce agreement from the desk. I turned to the last page and signed my name.
- Watching him fight back his anger, I smiled faintly.
- This was the Zander I knew.
- "If you don't like this reason, I can change it. I'll send you another divorce agreement," I added.
- As I turned to leave, Zander's voice echoed from behind me.
- "Jessica, if you walk out of this office now, there is no turning back," Zander said coldly. "Are you really not considering Johnny? His company is like a leech on the Harrison Group. I wouldn't allow it to exist if it weren't for you."
- My heart skipped a beat and I turned to look at Zander.
- We had once loved each other, but now he was using Johnny as a threat.
- As I looked at him, I felt the love in my heart for him dissipating.
- He seemed to notice my change as well, showing a surprised look on his face.
- "Do what you want," I said, not waiting for his answer, and promptly left his office.
- As the office door closed, I heard the sound of something breaking inside.
- Back in my car, instead of going to the office, I drove straight to Johnny's house.
- I had left that house since my marriage, returning only for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
- When Johnny saw me, he was overjoyed.
- He smiled and said, "I've been feeling a little lonely, but here you are."
- "Where are Downey and Rebecca?" I asked, looking around the empty living room.
- Rebecca is Johnny's wife and Downey is Rebecca's son from a previous marriage.
- Downey is three years older than me and currently works for Johnny's company.
- "They went on vacation," Johnny explained.
- "Work at the company is keeping me busy and I couldn't take time off."
- I nodded, put on my slippers, and followed Johnny into the living room.
- Looking at Johnny's aging face, I couldn't help but ask, "Are you in some kind of trouble?"
- Johnny worked under my father, but he had been instrumental in raising me.
- I couldn't be indifferent when it came to him.
- Johnny smiled bitterly.
- He said, "The assistant manager just called me to say that our business partner canceled all the orders. We prepared a lot of goods already, and now they're all stuck in the warehouse. If we don't find a new buyer for such a large batch of goods, our money won't circulate.
- Those orders were from the Harrison Group. I hadn't expected Zander to really go after Johnny.
- I tried to comfort Johnny by saying, "Don't worry, if the quality of the goods is good, finding buyers shouldn't be a problem.
- Afterwards, I sent a message to Lucas, asking him to handle things for Johnny's company.
- Back in my old room, I lay down on the bed and rested for a while.
- In my semi-dream state, Johnny knocked on my door.
- "Jessica, time for dinner."
- I washed my face with cold water.
- Once refreshed, I went to the dining room.
- "I just received a phone call. Surprisingly, there's a company that wants to buy my goods. The specifications and price are the same as the previous order," Johnny said happily.
- "Oh? What's the company's name?" I asked.
- "Alpha Company," Johnny remembered.
- I smiled and nodded since it was the company I just took over.
- With a market for the backlog of goods, Johnny's mood improved noticeably.
- He even had two extra turkey legs for dinner.
- After dinner, Johnny and I talked for a while, and I didn't tell him about the divorce.
- He didn't ask about my current life with Zander, either.
- Back in my room, I got a call from Lucas.
- "Miss Riddle, the company we were bidding for earlier contacted us today."
- "Are they breaking the contract again?" I raised an eyebrow.
- "Not exactly," Lucas paused before saying, "The company mentioned that their former representative, Tommy, was fired for taking bribes. So they're inviting us back into the bidding process."
- I chuckled and said, "They don't want to offend either side, huh? No problem, I'll participate."
