Chapter 5
- Zander's POV
- I was irritated and restless as never before, and I paced the living room anxiously.
- I could not sit still in my chair.
- All the reasons seemed to have left me. I was less and less able to control myself.
- I wanted to destroy, I wanted to lash out.
- Jessica never disobeyed me. Even when I alienated her, she just looked at me sadly.
- How could she leave me without my permission?
- I dialed my assistant's number.
- "Mr. Harrison, how can I help you?" Dwayne answered the phone immediately.
- "Investigate Jessica's whereabouts today. No, this month, now!" I yelled. I continued, "Come to my house."
- I hung up and took a deep breath.
- There must be someone who incited Jessica.
- Who could this person be?
- Johnny's name came to my mind.
- I gritted my teeth.
- It had to be him!
- Jessica didn't know that her father had done those unforgivable things. And Johnny tried to manipulate me with Jessica?
- Anger and hate filled my brain.
- I hadn't hurt her because I loved her. But I would never let her leave me.
- She hadn't paid for what her father had done.
- The doorbell rang. I opened the door.
- Dwayne came in with two bodyguards. I raised my hand to signal them to come in.
- "Jessica ran away from home. Check for clues." I said coldly.
- Dwayne froze for a moment and then came in with two men.
- They searched the whole house carefully. I sat down on the couch and held my head.
- "Mr. Harrison, there are no clues at all," Dwayne reported with his head down.
- "Impossible!" I angrily kicked the table.
- It made a thud and Dwayne jumped in shock.
- I immediately went to the study and found the Divorce Settlement Agreement.
- I anxiously flipped the document back and forth. Finally, my eyes stopped in the line.
- The reason for the divorce is that the husband cheated on his wife.
- Suddenly, a light bulb went off in my head, and it was as if I had gotten a clue.
- "Leave," I ordered in a deep voice.
- Dwayne and the bodyguards left.
- Jessica also said yesterday about me cheating on her. I thought she was just looking for a reason to talk to me.
- Suddenly, Serena's words came to my mind. She said that Jessica had come to see me yesterday but left soon.
- I grabbed my car keys and drove back to the office right away.
- It was after work, so the office was almost empty.
- I entered the office and opened the surveillance monitor.
- Then I accessed yesterday's video.
- I had this camera installed by Dwayne alone. No one knew about it except Dwayne and me.
- The video played until 10:20 AM when Serena came into my office with a strange man.
- She pointed to the chair and said something. The man then put on my jacket.
- The next footage got weirder.
- Serena and the strange man were having sex in my office.
- The relief of finding out why offset my anger.
- I then fully understood why Jessica had filed for divorce. She must have mistaken the man for me.
- Just then my phone rang.
- "Zander, when are you going to sign the divorce papers?" Jessica's cold voice came from the phone.
- I frowned. That was not the tone she was supposed to use with me.
- I said, "Stop being ridiculous. I already know why you want a divorce. It's all a misunderstanding."
- "Whether it's a misunderstanding or not doesn't matter to me anymore. I made my decision already. Let's get on with the process as soon as possible." Jessica's tone was still cold.
- I'm very unhappy with Jessica's attitude. My patience was about to run out.
- I said impatiently, "So you're the boss now? Let me remind you that there is a limit. Do not exhaust my patience, or I cannot guarantee that Johnny's company will be able to operate normally."
- "You're threatening me," Jessica said with a voice of suppressed anger.
- "Just so you know, Johnny is only able to run his company because of our cooperation. If I stop my orders, you know what that means." I said coldly.
- "Shame on you!" Jessica roared angrily.
- "You have half an hour to come to my office and take your ridiculous divorce papers away!"
