• As I ran up the stairs to my house, my heart was beating fast. Alex was right behind me. Just having him there was a small relief in the middle of my fear. One thing I wasn't used to hearing from my brother was a worried tone in his voice over the phone. It made my nerves tense.
• I stopped moving when I opened the front door. The living room looked like something else. The cushions were cut open, and the stuffing came out like guts. The coffee table fell over, and glass pieces were all over the floor. Some frames were completely broken, and pictures were hung on the walls upside down.
