Chapter 3 Entering The Den
- The city lights faded into a bleak, oppressive blackness as the armored SUV climbed higher into the northern hills. The storm raged violently now, sheets of rain slamming against the reinforced glass.
- Sienna sat pressed against the leather door, keeping as much distance between herself and Dominic as the backseat allowed. He hadn’t spoken a single word since they left the penthouse. He simply stared out into the dark forest lining the winding mountain road, his broad chest rising and falling in a slow, hypnotic rhythm.
- The silence was deafening, but the tension radiating off him was louder. Every time the SUV hit a bump, her arm would brush against his tailored sleeve, sending a jolt of unnatural, electric heat through her skin. It defied logic. The car's climate control was blasting cold air, yet Dominic felt like a furnace.
- Finally, the vehicle slowed, turning into a massive, hidden stone gateway. Heavy iron gates parted automatically, and the SUV rolled down a long, winding driveway lined with ancient pine trees.
- At the end of the path sat the Lykaios estate.
- It wasn't a modern billionaire's mansion. It was a sprawling, gothic fortress made of dark stone and heavy timber, cut directly into the side of the mountain. It looked isolated, formidable, and entirely cut off from civilization.
- The SUV ground to a halt. The driver opened the door, holding a massive umbrella, but Dominic ignored it. He stepped out into the pouring rain, his long strides taking him around to Sienna’s side before the driver could even move.
- Dominic opened her door and extended a large, calloused hand.
- Sienna hesitated, looking at his palm, then up into his stormy grey eyes. Realizing she had nowhere else to go, she placed her hand in his. His fingers wrapped around hers completely, hot and unyielding, pulling her out of the vehicle and shielding her body with his own as they walked up the stone steps.
- The massive oak front doors swung open before they even reached them.
- Inside, the grand foyer was dimly lit by a roaring stone fireplace. The floors were dark hardwood, covered in thick, intricate rugs. Standing in a neat line were three men and two women, all dressed in formal attire.
- The moment Dominic stepped through the door, the entire group lowered their heads in a synchronized, deeply submissive bow. It wasn't the polite nod given to a wealthy employer. It looked like ancient, absolute deference.
- "Welcome home, Alpha," an older, gray-haired man in a crisp suit said, his voice laced with profound respect.
- Sienna froze. *Alpha?* It was an odd title for a corporate CEO.
- Dominic didn't acknowledge the bow. He simply kept his grip tight on Sienna’s hand, leading her past them. "This is Sienna. She bears my name now. You will treat her commands as my own. Clear?"
- "Yes, Alpha," they answered in unison, their voices perfectly aligned.
- "Prepare the master suite," Dominic ordered, his gravelly voice echoing in the vast space. "And bring up something for her to eat. She's shivering."
- "Right away."
- Dominic guided Sienna up a sweeping, curved staircase. The walls were adorned with paintings of vast, untamed wilderness and massive, fierce wolves running under full moons. The air in the house smelled deeply of pine, cedar, and that same rich, primal scent that clung to Dominic's skin.
- They reached the second-floor landing, where a long hallway stretched in two opposite directions. To the left, the corridor was brightly lit. To the right, it was shrouded in deep shadows, blocked by a heavy, iron-reinforced double door.
- Dominic stopped, turning his imposing frame toward her. The warmth of the fireplace downstairs hadn't reached up here, but his presence alone made her flush.
- "Your rooms are to the left," Dominic said, his voice dropping to a low baritone that vibrated in her chest. "Everything you need has already been delivered. You are free to roam the estate, the grounds, and the gardens."
- He stepped closer, his shadow completely swallowing her. He reached out, his heavy hand gently cupping the side of her neck. His thumb brushed against her frantic pulse, and Sienna gasped at the sheer intensity of his touch. His eyes dilated, a brief, dangerous flash of amber cutting through the grey.
- "But you have rules, Sienna," he whispered, his grip tightening just enough to assert dominance. "You are never to leave the estate grounds without my permission. And you are never, under any circumstances, to open the doors to the west wing."
- Sienna swallowed hard, her voice trembling but defiant. "And if I do?"
- Dominic leaned down, his lips brushing against the shell of her ear. His breath was scorching.
- "Don't tempt the beast, little bird. You won't like what happens when I lose control."
