Chapter 2 The Dark Contract

  • The silence in the penthouse was heavy enough to suffocate. Outside, lightning sliced through the black sky, casting stark, fleeting shadows across Dominic’s sharp jawline.
  • Sienna felt the heat of his thumb resting against her lower lip. Her pulse was racing, a frantic drumming that she was certain he could hear in the quiet room.
  • "Marry you?" Her voice was barely a whisper. "You don't even know me."
  • "I know enough," Dominic murmured. His grey eyes darkened, tracking a stray droplet of rain as it rolled down her neck. "I know you are backed into a corner. I know the Romanos will hunt you down by midnight. And I know I am the only man in this city who can stop them."
  • He stepped back, freeing her from his intoxicating, terrifying grip. The sudden loss of his body heat left her shivering in her damp clothes.
  • Dominic walked back to his desk, sliding open a drawer. He pulled out a sleek, black leather folder and tossed it onto the dark wood. It landed with a soft, definitive thud.
  • "The terms are already drafted," he said, leaning his hands flat on the desk, looming over the paperwork. "Twenty million dollars transferred to the Romano syndicate immediately upon your signature. Your family's debt is cleared. In exchange, you legally become my wife. You will move into my estate north of the city tonight."
  • Sienna approached the desk, her hands trembling as she opened the folder. The legal language was precise, cold, and absolute. There was no room for negotiation.
  • "There's no expiration date," she noted, her eyes scanning the pages. "How long does this marriage last?"
  • "Until death," Dominic replied flatly.
  • A chill ran down her spine. The utter finality in his tone didn't sound like a businessman securing an asset. It sounded like a predator locking a cage.
  • "Why me?" Sienna demanded, looking up to meet his intense gaze. "You're a billionaire, Mr. Lykaios. You could have any woman in the high-society circles of this city. Why force a mob boss's daughter into a contract?"
  • For a fraction of a second, something savage and ancient flickered in the depths of Dominic’s eyes. His nostrils flared slightly, as if he were memorizing the very scent of her fear and defiance.
  • "Let's just say I appreciate rare things, Miss Vance," he said, his voice dropping to a gravelly purr. "And I always claim what I want. The clock is ticking. Do we have a deal, or do I call my security to escort you back to Enzo Romano?"
  • The mention of Enzo broke through her hesitation. She could see the monster standing in front of her, or she could choose the monsters waiting for her in the dark streets outside. At least this monster was offering her family survival.
  • Sienna reached into her jacket, pulled out a pen, and flipped to the signature page. Without allowing herself to think another second, she signed her name in sharp, decisive cursive.
  • Dominic watched her hand move. The moment the pen left the paper, a dark, satisfied smile touched his lips. He picked up his phone, pressing a speed-dial button.
  • "Execute the wire transfer to the Romano account," Dominic ordered into the receiver. "And tell the vanguard to stand down. The debt is settled."
  • He hung up and looked at Sienna, his eyes flashing with a strange, possessive triumph. "It's done. You are officially a Lykaios."
  • "Just like that?" Sienna asked, stunned by how fast twenty million dollars could move.
  • "Just like that," Dominic said, walking around the desk and taking her arm. His grip was firm, unyielding, but not painful. "Now, we leave. The city is no longer safe for you."
  • "I need to go home, pack my things, tell my father—"
  • "My men will secure your father and relocate him to a safe house outside the state," Dominic interrupted, guiding her toward a private exit behind his desk. "As for your things, everything you need will be provided for you at the estate. From this moment on, your old life is dead."
  • He led her into a private, secure garage beneath the building where a massive, armored black SUV sat idling. A driver in a dark suit opened the rear door immediately, bowing his head in deep respect as they approached.
  • As Sienna stepped into the vehicle, she looked back at Dominic. He was looking out into the rain, his jaw tight, his posture rigid. There was an unnatural aura of power radiating off him, something that felt entirely separate from his wealth and status.
  • As the SUV pulled out into the stormy night, leaving the neon lights of the city behind, Sienna realized she hadn't just saved her family.
  • She had signed herself over to a man who felt less like a billionaire, and more like a beast waiting to unleash its claws.
