Chapter 11 Bbmr Elevem

  • The servants bustled with their respective tasks, while in the living room, Barbra enjoyed her afternoon tea at a small, intricately carved table. The sound of approaching high heels immediately drew everyone's attention.
  • Eva appeared gracefully, dressed in a pastel-colored dress with a simple cut that still radiated luxury. Her long, wavy hair cascaded neatly, and a sweet smile adorned her oval face. However, behind that smile lay a confidence bordering on arrogance.
  • "Aunt Barbra, darling," she greeted, approaching Reiner's mother. "I thought this afternoon would be boring, but I found a reason to visit after all."
  • Barbra offered a faint smile, sipping her tea before responding. "Eva, my dear. It's always a pleasure to see you. What brings you here?"
  • Eva placed a shopping bag on the side table, filled with various expensive gifts. "I just wanted to share a few gifts for you, Uncle Gale, and even the servants. It's been a while since I stopped by."
  • Barbra smiled broadly. "You're always so thoughtful, as usual."
  • The servants were called one by one to receive their gifts, standing in neat lines and expressing their gratitude to Eva. However, when Eva spotted Elise among them, her brow furrowed slightly.
  • "Who is she?" she asked, pointing at Elise with her chin.
  • Barbra glanced briefly at Elise and answered casually, "Oh, that's Elise. The new maid. She's assigned to take care of my father-in-law's needs."
  • Eva's eyes narrowed slightly. Elise wore a standard maid uniform, but her clean and sweet appearance made her stand out among the others. Eva smiled faintly, though there was a cold undertone in her voice as she remarked, "Your choice this time is... interesting. Usually, the old man's maids don't last long, do they?"
  • Barbra shrugged. "That's true. But so far, she seems capable enough."
  • Elise bowed her head, trying to conceal the discomfort creeping into her chest.
  • After the servants returned to the kitchen, except for Elise, who stayed in the living room to assist Abraham, Eva turned her attention to the elderly man, who was slowly making his way to the sofa with Elise's help.
  • "Grandpa Abraham," she greeted softly, her voice deliberately warm and friendly. "How are you today?"
  • Abraham only glanced at her briefly without responding. Elise carefully guided him, letting the old man sit before arranging a small blanket for him.
  • "Mr. Abraham is doing well," Elise replied politely, noticing Eva still waiting for an answer.
  • Eva raised her eyebrows, surprised and puzzled. Abraham, known for his stern demeanor and reluctance to tolerate people, seemed to accept his new maid's care without protest—a rare sight.
  • "You seem like a diligent maid," Eva commented to Elise, her tone sounding sincere but with a hint of evaluation. "Do you enjoy working here?"
  • Elise bowed politely. "I simply strive to do my best, Miss Eva."
  • Eva smiled faintly, though her thoughts began to whirl with curiosity. Why did Abraham seem so soft toward this girl? Was there something special about Elise? Her mind raced, recalling old rumors about how no maid lasted more than a month caring for Abraham.
  • Eva redirected her gaze to Abraham, trying to engage him in more conversation. However, the old man gave only brief answers before eventually asking Elise to help him to his room.
  • As Elise and Abraham slowly left the room, Eva watched them with an expression that was hard to decipher. "The new maid... she seems rather special," she murmured softly, though Barbra overheard.
  • "Oh, she's just a maid. Her appearance is as plain as the others," Barbra replied coldly, her voice laced with indifference.
  • Eva smirked slightly, but her mind was already set on finding out more about this girl named Elise. Something about her felt unsettling, something that made Eva think Elise wasn't an ordinary maid.
  • When the front door of the Barack family house opened, Reiner entered with heavy steps. His face looked tired after a long day at the office. His suit was slightly wrinkled, indicating it had not been an easy day.
  • "Reiner!" Eva immediately stood up from the sofa and rushed toward him. Cheerfully, she wrapped her arms around him, giving him a brief hug.
  • Reiner stood stiffly, allowing the embrace for a moment before gently pulling away. However, his gaze wasn't on Eva but somewhere else. Across the room, Elise was standing, holding one of Abraham's books, unintentionally observing them.
  • When their eyes met, Elise quickly averted her gaze, pretending to be busy with the object in her hand. Yet the discomfort was evident.
  • "Eva, that's enough," Reiner said coldly, removing Eva's hands from his arm. Without waiting for a response, he headed upstairs toward his room.
  • Barbra, watching from her seat, merely offered a small smile. Calmly, she gave Eva a subtle signal. "Why don't you go see him in his room? Perhaps he just needs some time to unwind."
  • Eva nodded, not needing further encouragement from Barbra. Without hesitation, she followed Reiner upstairs.
  • In another part of the house, Abraham, seated on the sofa with Elise nearby, observed the moment with sharp eyes. He knew more about what went on in this house than met the eye. In a low tone, he called Elise.
  • "Elise."
  • "Yes, Mr. Abraham?" Elise stepped closer, ready to hear his instructions.
  • "Reiner is home. You should check on him."
  • Elise hesitated for a moment but finally nodded. "Very well, Sir."
  • She walked toward Reiner's room, trying to shake off her nervousness. In her mind, she recalled what Will, the senior caretaker, had told her about what to do when Reiner returned home. Meanwhile, a separate thought lingered uneasily—she knew there were two people in that room.
  • When Elise reached the door, she paused. The door was slightly ajar, and through the gap, she saw Eva draped affectionately over Reiner as he removed his jacket.
  • "Reiner, you're so stubborn," Eva's voice came out in a teasing tone. Her hands wrapped around his neck, and her smile exuded confidence that she could soften his mood.
  • Elise felt uneasy being a witness to this moment. She cleared her throat softly to announce her presence, then said, "Excuse me, Mr. Reiner."
  • Reiner immediately turned, his expression turning cold upon seeing Elise. Eva also turned, her gaze filled with curiosity and a hint of annoyance.
  • "What are you doing here?" Eva asked sharply, though she maintained her sweet smile.
  • Elise didn't respond, feeling it wasn't her place to explain herself. Before the situation became more awkward, Reiner stepped forward and cut in with a firm tone. "Come in, Elise. I need something from you."
  • Eva was startled. She released her hold on Reiner's neck and looked at him with a confused expression. "Reiner, she's just a maid. Why would she—"
  • "Eva," Reiner interrupted without looking at her. "Please wait a moment."
  • Though annoyed, Eva stepped back, conceding for the time being. She stood in the corner of the room, watching Elise walk in calmly, though tension was evident on her face.
  • Eva scrutinized Elise from head to toe, her curiosity and jealousy beginning to simmer. Why was this maid so important to Reiner?
  • Damn it! She's just a maid. Why should I feel threatened?
