Chapter 10 Bbmr Ten

  • Eva Myles, with her undeniable grace, walked in. Her posture was upright, her oval face adorned with a faint smile that seemed warm yet commanding. Her long, wavy hair fell perfectly over her white blazer and black pencil skirt. Each step of her high heels created a rhythmic sound on the floor, drawing the attention of employees who had been busy just moments before.
  • "She's here again," whispered one receptionist to her colleague.
  • "How bold of her. Everyone knows Mr. Reiner doesn't like her," replied the other in a hushed tone.
  • "Remember the rumors from that party? Ugh! She should be ashamed."
  • Eva ignored the whispers. To her, they were merely part of the everyday scenery. Calmly, she walked toward the elevator, pressing the button to the executive floor without asking for anyone's permission.
  • When she arrived upstairs, Reiner's personal assistant, Hanna, tried to intercept her with a professional smile.
  • "Ms. Eva, Mr. Reiner is currently busy with—"
  • "I know, Hanna," Eva interrupted gently but firmly. "But I'm sure he'll make time for me."
  • Without waiting for a response, Eva pushed open the door to Reiner's office and stepped inside.
  • Behind his large desk, Reiner Barack was poring over documents, his brow furrowed. His jacket hung on the back of his chair, leaving him in a white shirt with sleeves rolled up to reveal his strong forearms. When the door opened unceremoniously, he looked up sharply.
  • "Eva," he said coolly, placing the documents on his desk. "Haven't you learned any manners?"
  • Eva smiled, unfazed by his cold tone. She approached, walking gracefully until she stood by his desk. "Don't be like that, Reiner. You know I don't need permission to see you."
  • Without waiting for approval, Eva leaned in slightly, planting a quick kiss on Reiner's cheek. Her luxurious perfume instantly filled the room.
  • Reiner straightened, turning his face away reluctantly. "Eva, I've told you countless times, we have no business anymore."
  • "But I never give up, do I?" Eva replied, taking a seat across from him and crossing her legs elegantly. "Besides, aren’t we the perfect match? My father supports us, and so does your mother."
  • "Of course. They're the ones who want it, not me," Reiner retorted cynically. "And, Eva, you should know—I’m not interested in playing this game. You’ve already humiliated yourself at that party, yet you still come back here. Don’t you have any self-respect?"
  • Eva's smile barely faltered, though his words stung. "You know I'm not someone who gives up easily, Reiner. I love you. Or perhaps you'd prefer I say I’m obsessed with you?"
  • Reiner scoffed, picking up his pen and resuming his work as if she weren’t there. "I don’t have time for this. If you have nothing important to discuss, the door is behind you."
  • "Oh, I do have something important," Eva said, her voice turning more serious. "Think carefully about this, Reiner. You know I can help solidify your position in the company. My father is a crucial strategic partner. Don’t forget that."
  • Reiner lifted his gaze, his expression cold. "And you think I need your help to strengthen my position? Sorry, Eva, I’m not playing along. If I decide to marry, it won’t be because of business pressures. And it certainly won’t be with someone who traps their life around profit."
  • Eva fell silent for a moment, her eyes narrowing. But her icy smile remained intact. "Very well, Reiner. But remember, I always get what I want. Always."
  • She rose gracefully, walking out without saying goodbye. But just before reaching the door, she paused and glanced back with a faint smile.
  • "Oh, one more thing. Don’t underestimate love, Reiner. Sometimes, love can be the most dangerous weapon."
  • Reiner merely watched her leave with an impassive expression, then returned to his work as if nothing had happened. Yet deep down, he knew Eva was someone to be cautious of.
  • When the elevator doors closed, Eva's faint smile slowly faded. She walked out of the building with her usual grace, but a hidden tension lingered in her eyes. Once she reached her car, her uniformed driver opened the door for her.
  • "Thank you, Danny," she said curtly, though her tone was cold.
  • After settling into the back seat, the car door closed tightly, and Eva finally dropped her fake smile. She leaned her head back against the seat, letting out a deep sigh, her face now full of frustration.
  • "Why is he always like this?" Eva muttered quietly, almost as if talking to herself. Her slender fingers clutched the clutch bag on her lap.
  • The car began moving through the bustling city streets, but Eva's thoughts only grew more chaotic.
  • "I've tried everything. Everything!" she said, biting her lower lip. "I’ve shown him the best of myself. I’m beautiful, I’m wealthy, and I can give him anything he wants. But he still doesn’t care!"
  • She stared at her reflection in the car window. Her usually sharp gaze now looked shaky. "What’s wrong with me? Does he really feel nothing? Or... is there something he’s hiding?"
  • "Danny, am I not beautiful enough?" Eva asked her driver. Danny, a man in his forties who had worked with her for three years, remained silent, unsure of how to respond.
  • Eva lowered her head, her hands clenched on her lap. Briefly, memories of Reiner flashed in her mind. She recalled their first meeting at one of the Barack family parties, how Reiner's charisma had immediately captivated her. But something always felt off—Reiner had never truly been interested in her, even though everyone around them deemed them the perfect pair.
  • "He once loved someone," Eva murmured, her voice almost a whisper. Her gaze turned vacant, as if piercing into the past. "I remember... His mother once said he used to love someone. But that was years ago. Who was she? Does he still love her?"
  • A pang of anguish struck Eva’s chest. The thought of Reiner possibly holding onto a past love only deepened her frustration.
  • "Impossible," Eva shook her head slightly, trying to calm herself. "Reiner wouldn’t live in the shadows of the past. He’s a rational man. He just hasn’t realized what’s right in front of him—me."
  • She closed her eyes briefly, taking a deep breath to steady her emotions. When she opened them again, her expression had shifted. The frustration on her face was replaced by a faint, icy smile.
  • "If he does have a past, I’ll find out," she murmured with determination. "I need to know who she is. And I’ll make sure she has no place left in Reiner’s heart."
  • Danny glanced briefly in the rearview mirror, hesitating to speak. "Ma’am, should we head straight home, or is there somewhere else you’d like to go?"
  • Eva’s thin smile returned, though it didn’t reach her eyes. "Straight home, Danny. I need some time to think."
  • "Yes, Ma’am," Danny replied, focusing back on the road.
  • The car continued down the city streets, leaving behind the rising storm of Eva's ambition. Deep in her heart, she resolved that Reiner would belong to her—no matter what it took.
