Chapter 12 An Unexpected Invitation
- Kathy burst through the front door, her clothes clinging to her skin from the sudden downpour outside. Without any hesitation, she made a beeline for the bathroom, eager to wash away the chill that had seeped into her bones. The faulty faucet in her en-suite had slipped her mind, and with Peterson away on a business trip, she'd opted for the main bathroom.
- As the warm water cascaded over her, Kathy felt her muscles relax. It wasn't until she stepped out of the shower that she realized her oversight - she'd forgotten to bring a change of clothes. Wrapping a towel snugly around herself, she poked her head out of the bathroom, surveying the empty hallway.
- "Thank goodness I'm alone," she muttered, padding softly towards the kitchen. Her throat felt parched, and the allure of a cool glass of water was too strong to resist.
