Chapter 17 Internal Betrayal
- The old woman worked through the night, grinding herbs Kael didn't recognize into a paste that smelled like burnt copper, murmuring words in a dialect even Vey didn't know, while Elara drifted in and out of a fever so deep her skin had gone waxen and grey beneath the black veins.
- "It will slow the poison," the old woman said finally, wiping her hands on her apron. "Slow it. Not stop it. Whatever crafted this wanted it thorough. I can buy her time, Alpha. I cannot promise you a cure I've never seen work."
- "How much time."
