• Lotus's heart raced as she made her way home, her mind still reeling from the unexpected encounter with Peter. It had been years since their divorce, and the surgery she had undergone had altered her appearance enough that he couldn't recognize her. But the memories of how he had treated her during their marriage still left a bitter taste in her mouth.

• She entered her apartment and headed straight for the kitchen. She grabbed a cold drink from the refrigerator, the condensation leaving droplets on her trembling hand. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and tried to calm her racing thoughts. She needed to let go of the anger that had resurfaced and find a way to move forward.
