• After spending her first day at work and doing nothing but work, Carmen was beyond tired. She had done exactly what Grandpa Edgar had told her to—she carried herself with a little more confidence, unlike her usual self, and didn’t give anyone the chance to question back.
• The directors of the company, too, seemed to be fond of her. And after what Jessica Temples revealed about those unchecked contracts, the rest of the day was spent wondering how she could get her hands on them without raising alarm.
• The humid air of the evening brushed through Carmen’s hair, making them float behind her as she walked down the steps, and slipped into the car waiting for her. Grandpa Edgar had organized the car to pick her up and drop her off from work. Despite her objections, he had also arranged an apartment in the city so she wouldn’t have to worry about finding a place to live.
