Chapter 2

  • Candice POV
  • My heart is thumping out of my chest in terror. I am so scared, just because of a certain someone who thinks if he has money he is superior, my job slipped out of my grasp. What was my fault that he did this to me? What have I done to him, I am not the one who made the coffee. Just because of his short temper I lost my job and I am so scared, what my father would do if he came to know about it. My father is very strict and always ridicules me. I left the hotel and went to a random park.
  • I wanted to tell my best friend Sophie about what happened but she just got married and I don’t want to disturb her.
  • I sighed as a few tears rolled down my cheek. I covered my face in my hands and let out silent sobs. I am not sad because of the job but to see Father’s reaction. I wiped my tears and went home. I entered, no one home. My younger brother, Rufus is at work and my Father is at the grocery shop he owns. Even living together we all apart.
  • I kept cursing that rich man who ruined my day, if he has money that doesn’t mean he can treat me like trash.
  • I sighed and called Nicolas,
  • “Hello..” his voice came. I smiled and replied, “Hey… How are you?” I asked.
  • “I am fine, what about you?”
  • “Good… Just missing you and the kids.” I said. He chuckled, “We will come to visit when their vacation starts..” he told me.
  • “I am looking forward to meeting you guys..” We then talked for a while and then Rufus came home so I gotta go.
  • “Hey, Candice, you’re early…” Rufus trailed off, entering and taking off his shoes.
  • “Yeah.. I lost my job…” I said, leaning back on the couch. He looked at me concerned and asked, “You okay?” I hummed and laid down. I held my hand out and began to say, “Nothing wanting to see Father..” He came to me and ruffled my hair. “Don’t worry, I am here.” I smiled and sat up as he sat beside me, “So… how does this happen?” He asked.
  • “I just served the order, that devil got angry so I told him I am not the one who made this, don’t yell at me but he just burst and … here I am.” I told him, laughing a bit. I rest my head on his shoulder and began to sadly,
  • “I am afraid to see Father’s reaction..” He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and said reassuringly, “Don’t worry.” Even though he is two years younger than me, he always comforts me by saying sweet things.
  • Night came and Father came home. I took a deep breath and went down to have dinner, “Welcome home, Elmer.” I unintentionally called Father by his name which made him furious, “Ungrateful Brat! What did you say!?” He yelled. My breath hitched as I felt so scared. No matter how brave I show myself but from inside a frightened cat and any little thing and provoke my fear. I gulped and timidly took a seat.
  • There was a silence between us, we all sat down and began to have dinner in silence, “F-Father..” I called him hesitantly. He hummed and I began to say, “I l-lost my job.” He stopped eating and looked at me. I stiff and curled my toes in vexation. He stared at me for a while and scoffed, “Who cares about your money anyways. But keep it in your mind, I won’t afford your expenses.” He warned. “Father don’t be like that. I will help you Candice.” Rufus said.
  • “Shut up, Idiot!” Father scolded him. He sealed his mouth shut, Father spared a last glance at me and mumbled,
  • “She is already 26.. Marry her off to someone.” My eyes widened in disbelief, “I won’t marry.” I announced.
  • “I don’t need your opinion.” He said rudely. I grit my teeth and took my plate and went to my room.
  • He cannot do this to me, I will not marry some random guy. If he wants to throw me out he can but ah well then who he will fulfill the promise he made to my mother. He has to throw me out in a decent way.
  • Silent tears rolled down my cheek. I tried my best not to cry but it was so hard to contain myself. He just keeps looking for new ways to disown me. I shook my head and ate my food.
  • For the next few days, I kept looking for a job and after a week surprisingly I was offered a job as receptionist in a library with an unbelievably good pay for a receptionist, it was odd to get a job like this with such a pay. I couldn’t fathom but what I can do anyways, I shouldn’t complain and thank God.
  • “I got a job in a library.” I told Rufus, sitting beside him.
  • “You will not get a job bigger than this anyways.” Father’s mocking voice came from the kitchen. I sighed and shook my head, knowing it’s no use talking to him.
  • I kept working at the library, it was a fine day, I was working earnestly, focusing solely on my work but then the roots of evil decided to show their face to me. I kept smiling forcefully not wanting to ruin my mood by talking to this rich guy who treats other people as trash.
  • “Do you need anything, Sir?” My voice is already soft and just that his highness is not like it, I made it even more soft.
  • “ Call the owner, tell him Mr Moretti has come.” He told me, with his face glued to his phone as always. I nodded and called the owner and upon hearing it, he was so terrified, it seemed like he was a dangerous guy.
  • I looked at his blue eyes, similar to mine, darker shade of blue but his eyes somehow shine with his hairs all combed backwards along with a perfect dominating aura, men is black suits around him. He seemed like a high profile guy. He is a handsome devil.
  • He put his phone back and looked at me.
  • “Great, start of a bad day already.” He scoffed. I raise an eyebrow at him, “Excuse me, Sir?” I asked, controlling my urge to slam the keyboard on his face.
  • “I am also not dying to see your face.” I mumbled to myself. He opened his mouth to reply but his own came, “Ah, Mr Moretti. Please come. I did what you told me.” The owner said, smiling widely. The guy, Mr Moretti’s lips curved upward from one side in a smirk. My eyes went wide for a second when I saw that smirk on his appealing feature. His eyes slowly made their way to me, looking intensely at me. My lips formed a thin line as my heart began picking it’s pace under his piercing gaze. He scanned me, making me uncomfortable and finally a few moments of silence, he spoke up in a charming voice,
  • “Beautiful receptionist you got there.”
