Chapter 6

  • Ruth's Point Of View
  • I had never been to this dreadful place before. The damp, musty walls gave off a foul odor. I curled up on a wooden plank, unable to hold back my tears.
  • Had my life really been ruined like this? How did everything turn out this way?
  • I kept praying to the Moon Goddess. I had been so loyal to her.
  • My family no longer believed in me, and aside from pleading for the Moon Goddess's mercy, I felt powerless.
  • The cold dampness seeped into my body, and a sharp pain began to spread through my abdomen. I looked around and spotted some straw in the corner. I gathered it and laid it across the wooden plank before huddling in the corner, clutching my stomach.
  • The dungeon was completely cut off from sunlight, with only a faint yellow glow filtering through the iron bars on the door. I lost all sense of time and eventually drifted into sleep.
  • Perhaps because of my pregnancy, my mental state was getting worse. I couldn't bring myself to look at the food the jailer tossed in, much less eat it.
  • Lunette was also in a state of despair, lying with her eyes closed and responding slowly to my calls. I knew she was suffering just as much as I was.
  • I didn’t know how long it took, but I suddenly heard a burst of urgent footsteps coming from the dilapidated little window. The footsteps grew closer and closer, and then I saw Eleanor appear outside.
  • "Oh my God, Ruth..." Seeing my appearance, Eleanor's lips trembled, and tears fell down.
  • "I'm fine, Elenaor. Don’t cry,” I tried to comfort her.
  • Elenanor quickly stuffed some food and a thick coat through the window.
  • "How long has it been?" I asked, eating hungrily, not even realizing how starving I was until that moment.
  • "It's been two days. Eat slowly,” Eleanor said with worry in her eyes as she gently tried to fix my messy hair.
  • That’s when I noticed a large bruise on Eleanor's arm and I froze. Eleanor noticed my gaze and quickly retracted her hand, but I grabbed her arm and rolled up her sleeve.
  • Her arms were covered in cuts and bruises from being whipped. There was barely any skin left untouched.
  • My hands were shaking as I stared at the tragic scene in disbelief. I shouted angrily, "Who did this?"
  • Eleanor pulled her arm away and lowered her head. “It was Luna Moira. She asked me whose baby you are carrying, but I really don't know."
  • "I'm sorry, Eleanor. It's all my fault."
  • Guilt and sadness choked me. My reckless actions that night not only destroyed me, but also hurt Eleanor too. She had done nothing wrong, yet she was the one suffering for my mistakes.
  • I had already lost my brother Silas. The only person I could still trust, the one who had always stood by me, was Eleanor. After my mother died, she almost replaced her, taking care of me wholeheartedly and not letting me suffer any grievances. Letting her go through this for me felt worse than dying.
  • Eleanor said anxiously, "Now is not the time to talk about this. Ruth, you have to tell me who the father of the baby is. I’ll go to him. I’ll ask him to find a way to save you.”
  • I hesitated before answering, “Kaelus Moen. Alpha of the SilverMoon pack. My brother's greatest enemy."
  • Eleanor's eyes widened in shock. She covered her mouth, completely stunned.
  • "Do you think if Silas knew, would he let me go or let me die faster?" I let out a long sigh. I felt that everything was already over.
  • At this time, the guard came over and I immediately blocked Eleanor with my body.
  • "Ruth, don't give up. I will go find Alpha Kaelus and ask him to acknowledge you and the child." Eleanor left in a hurry after leaving these words.
  • I wrapped myself in the coat she had brought and finally managed to fall asleep for a while.
  • About a night later, I heard noises outside again. Lunette told me it was Eleanor.
  • Sure enough, the prison door opened, and Eleanor stood there.
  • A strong smell of blood filled the air, and her clothes were almost soaked with blood.
  • "What happened?" I asked in a panic, holding her cold hand gently.
  • Eleanor shook her head weakly and said, "Ruth, Alpha Kaelus said he didn't find his mate at the ball. What's going on?"
  • "How could that be? That’s impossible. Did I mistake my mate?”
  • I felt completely lost.
  • Could it really have been just a drunken fantasy that night? How could it be possible? My instinct made me choose him. Kaelus was the one the Moon Goddess chose for me.
  • "I broke into Silas' room and found Alpha Kaelus' phone number. I called him and asked if he had spent the night with a girl after the dance, but he couldn't even remember who you were, let alone that you might be his mate,” Eleanor said, looking at me sadly.
  • My lips moved, but no words came out. He was Alpha Kaelus. I should’ve expected this.
  • He hadn’t felt the bond between us at all. To him, I was just a nameless woman he had a one-night stand with.
  • "Does he know I'm pregnant?" I asked after a long silence, forcing the words out.
  • "Luna Moira found out before I could tell him,” Eleanor said, sighing.
  • "So, Moira beat you? She also had you watch?” I tried my best to suppress my anger. With Silas and me both gone, I couldn't even imagine what Eleanor must have endured.
  • "No. They handed me over to Beta Eden. He tortured me all night, trying to force me to tell them who the father of the child was and who I was talking to on the phone." Eleanor shook her head as tears streamed down her cheeks.
  • I gritted my teeth. Eden was Silas’ Beta. That meant he was acting under Silas’ orders.
  • The three of us have grown up together for so many years. Yet Silas was now able to stand by while Eleanor was beaten like this. Had he truly lost his mind?
  • Suddenly, the cell door opened. Eleanor quickly protected me behind her, and I saw a man standing at the door; it was Beta Eden.
  • I narrowed my eyes and stood slowly.
  • Eleanor tugged at my clothes, signaling me to stay calm. I patted her shoulder to reassure her.
  • "Ruth, did you instruct your Omega maid to sneak into the Alpha's room to steal and pass information to the enemy pack?" Eden asked, looking up, changing his usual respectful attitude toward me.
  • “What right do you have to question me?” I walked up to him and looked at him coldly.
  • I saw irritation flash across Eden’s face as he frowned, and said, "Of course it was Alpha Silas' order. Luna Moira gave me evidence of your betrayal of Frostscarred."
  • "Silas has completely lost his mind, hasn’t he? I’m his sister! We’re family! If he has any brains left, he wouldn't believe the nonsense of that bitch Moira. Have you all gone insane?” I shouted at Eden, furious.
  • Lunette growled inside me, "Be careful. This is Moira's plot! Eden has been bribed by her."
  • Eden seemed to expect my outburst and sneered. "Very well. Alpha Silas said that if you don't tell the truth, both you and your maid will be exiled."
  • I was stunned. Silas was going to exile us?
  • He might as well kill us.
  • Everyone knew what happened to rogues who were exiled. Silas wasn’t even giving Eleanor and me a chance to survive.
