Chapter 5

  • Ruth's Point Of View
  • The black snake was an ominous symbol, tied to a horrifying snake plague many years ago. Most werewolf packs that worshipped the Moon Goddess despised black snakes.
  • Why would Moira have a tattoo like that on her arm now? Had I seen it wrong?
  • Before I could ask, Silas walked up to me.
  • With a dark expression, he lowered his voice and asked, "What's wrong with you?"
  • I wiped my mouth with a napkin, looked up coldly at Silas, and said, "My stomach has been bothering me these days. I was going to see a doctor, but you only gave me fifteen minutes. I can’t get checked in that short time.”
  • Silas's expression was ugly, and I could see that he felt responsible.
  • He turned to Alpha Tim and said, "Alpha Tim, I'm really sorry. Ruth is not feeling well and ruined today's lunch. I'll take her to see a doctor now, and I’ll personally make it up to you next time.”
  • Silas led me outside. Moira followed, snapping, “Ruth, I know you hate me, but you shouldn't humiliate yourself in front of other pack leaders.”
  • "Please don't talk to me. I might still throw up, and you’ve run out of clothes to take off,” I said, glancing back at her with a mocking smile.
  • Moira looked furious. She sneered coldly and said, “Silas can't keep hovering around you like before. Stop using these cheap tricks just to get his attention.”
  • I couldn't help but stop and stare at Moira. She was clearly accusing me of faking my illness just to get Silas to care.
  • "Alright, enough." I was about to question Moira about the tattoo on her arm when Silas quietly reprimanded her.
  • Moira paused, then closed her mouth, glaring at me with resentment.
  • We arrived at the hospital. After the pack’s doctor, Grant, finished examining me, his expression turned strange.
  • "Ruth, you're not sick,” he said hesitantly. “You’re pregnant.”
  • "What?" I was stunned, as if struck by lightning.
  • How could that be? It was just one night. How could I be pregnant?
  • "What did you say? Pregnant?" Silas jumped to his feet, knocking over the chair.
  • Silas walked over quickly, grabbed my collar, and pulled me out of the chair.
  • I stumbled along behind him, my head a mess. Silas found an empty lounge and pushed me inside.
  • Moira followed, clearly thrilled.
  • Once the door closed, Silas shook me roughly and demanded, “Ruth, what have you done? Whose child is this?”
  • I felt dizzy from the shaking and struggled against him.
  • "Oh my god, you're the Alpha's daughter! How could you have a child with someone before your mate even appeared? And you've just come of age!" Moira shouted, leaning against the door, as if trying to make sure everyone heard.
  • "Shut up!" I broke free from Silas’s grip and screamed at Moira.
  • Silas grabbed my neck and pushed me back against the wall. I couldn’t resist, and the impact knocked the breath out of me.
  • "I'm warning you for the last time, don't speak to Luna like that!" Silas growled at me. "Ruth, tell me who the father of the child is!"
  • I had never seen him so furious. My back ached from the impact, and his grip on my neck made it hard to breathe.
  • Looking into Silas's reddening eyes, I knew that if I told him the father of my child was Kaelus, who was my mate, Silas might actually kill me.
  • So I gritted my teeth, said nothing, and just stared at Silas. I felt his grip on my neck tighten, my consciousness starting to fade.
  • "You've disappointed me, Ruth. I thought you would be influenced by your father's lineage and become a proper Alpha,” Silas spat and suddenly released me.
  • I could finally breathe again, sitting down against the wall, holding my neck and coughing desperately.
  • "But unfortunately, you're just like your mother, turning into a lying, shameless bitch."
  • "Silas, are you out of your mind? How can you say that about Mom!" I looked at Silas in disbelief. I couldn’t believe those words had come from my own brother.
  • "Do you know how Father died? He was too stupid and got killed by that bitch!" Silas stared at me coldly.
  • “You’re lying! That’s not true. It was an accident! Mom loved Dad; she would never hurt him!” I ignored the pain and stood up, shouting at him.
  • "How are you going to explain that we only found Father's body? Where did she go? She doesn't deserve to be our mother. She doesn't even deserve to be Luna of the Frostscarred pack!" Silas roared in anger, sweeping his hand and knocking over the bottles on the cabinet.
  • I stared blankly at Silas, every word he said filled me with fear.
  • Back then, we only found Dad's body, but there was a lot of Mom's blood around. We searched around the accident scene for days and nights, only finding some scattered hair, but no sign of Mom's body.
  • I knew many of our people had been whispering behind our backs, saying that Mom killed Dad and ran away. But Silas and I had always believed that wasn’t the truth. They loved each other so much, how could Mom betray Dad?
  • But what chilled me the most was that even Silas now believed it. How could he doubt his own mother like this?
  • "Don't get so worked up, Silas. The important thing now is how to deal with the child in Ruth's belly. If Ruth gets rid of the child, maybe Alpha Tim won’t mind,” Moira said as she came to Silas’s side, gently stroking his arm.
  • Moira’s fake, sympathetic face made me want to vomit.
  • "Moira, I know you're hoping for my downfall, but my affairs are none of your business. Shut your mouth!" I glared at her coldly. Now that everyone had dropped the pretense, I didn’t have to put up with her anymore.
  • Moira immediately put on a pitiful expression, grabbing Silas’s arm and saying, “Silas, I’m just thinking of the Frostscarred pack. If people from other packs find out about this…”
  • "Enough!" Silas took a deep breath. His face was expressionless as he continued, “No one will find out. This child cannot be born on Frostscarred territory.”
  • What did Silas mean by that? What was he going to do to me?
  • Silas opened the door and gave a quiet order. “Someone, take Ruth away, lock her up. No one is allowed to visit her without my permission!"
