Chapter 9 Oaks And Howls

  • *Bellatrix*
  • The only thing I wanted to do now was run. Run from this unrealistic yet real life mystery i had just been plunged into, and yes, run did I do. I snatched my hands away from Alec's grip and bolted down the stairs out of the house.
  • Alec didn't call me back nor did I want him to, because if he did, the overwhelming sensation coursing through me might trigger me to do something rash and that was the last thing I wanted. I kept running even after I had left Alec's house and I didn't stop until I got to the bus station that led out of Howls — The residing town of the winter pack territory.
  • The bus came around and I entered, making my stop at the T-junction that led to Faye's coffee where I was to meet Tee. My eyes scanned the shop when I entered to see if Tee was already there, turns out he was. Dressed in an almost similar outfit as the first time i had met him, only that this time he had on a hoodie with his sunglasses. He waved his hands at me from the far end where he sat.
  • I walked to him and slid into the empty seat at his front. "You are late." Was the first thing he said.
  • "Why did you want to see me?" I asked, ignoring his blatant statement.
  • "Ha, no pleasantries I see" He remarked with a chuckle.
  • I couldn't help but roll my eyes at him. I would have retorted but heaven knew I wasn't in the mood for that, infact I probably wasn't in the mood for anything not after finding out that I was mated to a fucking Lycan, add a gorgeous one at that.
  • "You look pale, are you okay?" When those words came out of Tee's mouth, I let out a scoff and replied.
  • "I do not think you are in a position to ask that.."
  • He chuckled, rubbing his chin ever so lightly. "Really? I thought we were friends?"
  • "Friends don't keep their face hidden."
  • "So you want to see my face?"
  • I shook my head, "I would rather not."
  • He chuckled again just as the barista came around and placed two cups of iced cappuccino with a plate of sandwich each at our front. I muttered a thanks to her as she left and took a sip from the drink, heaving a sigh at the temporal soothing the iced tea brought.
  • "So, what do you say we call off these deal.." Tee finally spoke again after staring into space for a while.
  • Shocked, I raised my eyes to look at him. "What?"
  • "You don't want to?"
  • Of course I wanted to, I was only surprised at his sudden decision when he had almost seemed like he would keep me for a lifetime when we had first met, this felt suspicious. "I didn't do anything for you, you didn't even get a single information from me."
  • "You think so? Because I don't? I already got all the information I need" he said, grinning.
  • "So I was right, you wanted me in the winter territory not because of the information i could bring but then why was I there?"
  • "It's a pity you haven't figured it out by now, Bellatrix Fallon... And its also a pity I am not ready to tell you about it now, but here.." He pushed a card to me. "One day, you will want to see me badly.. Come to that address when that time comes. By then I would answer all your questions." He said and stood up.
  • "Wait.." I said, immediately standing up with him.
  • "Speak."
  • "Are you an enemy?" I asked, surprising myself and probably Tee as well. It wasn't an intended question so I had no idea why I asked.
  • "Sadly, yes... But then again, things could change." He smiled and slipped his hands into his pocket.
  • "You still haven't told me about my parent."
  • "The pool of transition. The mystery lies in there" he stated with a note of finality and without waiting for a reply like he always did, he left me standing there.
  • The pool of transition. What the hell was that?
  • I slumped back to my seat and chugged down the iced tea and sandwich, not like anyone could resist free food, I got up and left Faye's.. And then I had to make next stop which was home. Home again.
  • ~
  • Was it the blinding rays of sun that was shining directly into my eyes, or the familiar scent of burnt eggs that woke me up, I do not know. But opening my eyes, I already could tell I was home. I stood up and trudged to the Kitchen and as usual Karen was standing in front of the cooker and cussing at the eggs she had just burnt. Karen never could make an omelette right.
  • "Hey.. " I said. Karen jumped in fright to look at me.
  • "Trix? What are you doing here? When did you get home?"
  • "Yesterday night. You were passed out on the chair you didn't know when I came in."
  • She frowned and looked away as she switched off the cooker. "You didn't call." She said, as she pours the burnt eggs into a polythene bag and started to walk out to dispose it in the trashcan.
  • I followed her. "I'm sorry... I was just pretty occupied."
  • "Too occupied to check on your little sis eh?" She huffed.
  • "Karen, it was only three days besides you were the one who insisted on me going."
  • Karen stopped and faced me. "I'm leaving in two weeks."
  • "What? To where?" She rolled her eyes and resumed walking. "If you had at least sent me a text, you would have known I got accepted into Oaks college.
  • "Oaks!" I exclaimed, opening the trashcan and letting her dump the refuse into it as we were already outside. "Oaks, as in the one in Howls?"
  • "Yes."
  • "You cannot go to Oaks Karen! I told you the first time you applied there." Oaks was the college residing in Howls, which meant if Karen went there she would be surrounded by Lycans which was absolutely not a good thing.
  • "I was not asking, I was only telling you so i do not need your advice." Karen snapped, slamming the door shut behind us.
  • "Kay! If you insist on going, I certainly would not pay your tuition fees because I simply do not understand your crazed obsession over that school."
  • "Well duh... I got in on the scholarship program big sis, so you don't have to worry about tuition fees, and as for my crazed obsession? Someone has to find out what really happened to mum and dad if you can't!"
  • I sighed, running my hands through my hair in exasperation. "Is that why you wanna go?"
  • "Yes.. That's why I wanna go!"
  • "Okay." I said and entered the kitchen.
  • "Okay?" Karen repeated probably surprised at my answer.
  • I glanced at her. "Should I take it back?" She immediately shook her head in negation and then let out a beaming smile.
  • "Thanks Trix!" She said excitedly. I nodded, somehow I knew Karen's going was something I couldn't stop, even though i could feel that bugging feeling in me that things would soon start to go southwards for us and we might not be able to handle it. But even then, we had to find out the mysteries surrounding our life and sitting here doing nothing other than assassinate bad Lycans wasn't gonna help.
  • "But.. I'm coming with you." Karen raised her brow questioningly at me.
  • "You mean like going to school with me? You graduated your online classes two years ago.. What do you wanna do in Oaks college?"
  • I folded my arms with a shake of my head. "Exactly Kay, why would i want to attend your school.. I meant we are moving to Howls.. Like relocating." I said with a finger quote.
  • "Oh... That's what you meant."
  • "Yeah, that's what I meant. Now go on and put it online that this house is going to be on rent, while I prepare us a better breakfast than burnt omelettes."
  • "What are you going to make?"
  • "Pasta."
  • Karen grinned at me before skipping out of the kitchen, her favorite song, 'bad guy by billie' hot on her lips.
  • I sighed as I lighted the cooker and placed the pot of water over it. I just hope I'm making the right decision by moving us to howls.
