Chapter 8 Mate [2]

  • *Bellatrix*
  • There were two different things about this time. One, it was fire and two, I was the one being chased not my mum. It was a trail of fire, fierce burning fire and even as I ran, it kept following me, ferociously spreading and almost getting closer.. I kept running, my breath coming out in short gasps and whimpers, it was then I caught sight of the familiar water, the crystal blue emittance sparkling from contact with the rays of sunlight and without thinking I dived Into it.
  • ..
  • "Bella! Bella wake up!"
  • The voice sounded distant and strange. No one called me Bella.
  • "Bella, can you hear me?" I jerked my eyes open, instantly sitting up but I immediately regretted it as a jolt of pain zapped right through my head. I whimpered, just as a strong pair of hands laid me back down.
  • "Easy.." The owner of the hand said, and it took a while for me to recognize that voice.
  • "Alpha Alec?" I gasped turning to stare at him. He sat down by the bed, looking as handsome as ever.
  • "Are you okay?" He asked. "You kept tossing and turning that I had to wake you up, did you have a bad dream?"
  • "No.." I lied, he didn't believe me I could tell, but he didn't push it either. . I closed my eyes, trying to recall how I got here. It was the events of earlier on started to flood back in. Alec giving me his car keys, Leila and I going shopping with his car and us getting drunk at the bar, okay I did get drunk that's why my head kept pounding like Usain bolt was running a million miles in it.
  • But then again. . my eyes immediately shot open and I sat up, ignoring the pain. I glanced down at my boot and heaved in a sigh when I saw it was still intact.
  • "I didn't put them off, I didn't want to wake you.." Alec said when he noticed. "I could put it off now for you though." He started to place his hands on my legs, making me jerk it forward.
  • "No! Don't worry" I almost yelled. My gun and knife were still in there, and if he puts it off then I sure as hell would be bursted. "I will just take it off when I'm ready." I said forcing out a smile.
  • He nodded and for a while there was an awkward silence between us. I didn't know what was going on in Alec's mind, but for me I was starting to get confused at his strange actions. First he had given me his car to drive which according to Leila it wasn't something he had ever done, and then he had put my drunken self to bed and was now staring at me like I was some kind of special person.
  • "You won't tell me why you are being nicer than your three days ago self would you?" I finally asked, breaking the silence between us.
  • "For now, no.. Just put up with whatever I do." He replied softly, his hands coming up to brush a stray tendril of hair from my face. I shivered at the contact, instinctively shifting backwards.
  • Alec sighed and dropped his hands, "There is a bottle of water and a aspirin right there" He nodded to the bedside table. "Take it to ease your headache, you do not seem really hungover though."
  • "I am not." It was an honest reply, because despite my low resistance to alcohol, my hangovers weren't as bad as you would think.. Most times which weren't much because I rarely drank, I would only have headaches which would be over in an hour or two.
  • "I would leave then, you should come down when you are rested enough." He said and not waiting for my reply, he walked out closing the door gently behind him.
  • I did not know why, but as he left, I suddenly felt a kind of emptiness in me, like he had taken a part of me with him. It didn't make sense, I really shouldn't get attracted to this man I'm supposed to be spying on, plus the fact that I have always hated his kind and even murdered them since I turned eighteen.
  • I managed to get down from the bed and move to the table to take the drug Alec had left for me. After I had consumed it, I picked up my phone to check the time and thankfully it was still some minutes past six which meant I haven't missed Tee's 'appointment'' with me.
  • I sat down back on the bed, phone in hand as I recalled the events of earlier on. Going out with Leila had been surprisingly comfortable and anything but inconvenient, she had easily blended with me and made me feel at ease that I had almost forgotten she was a Lycan.
  • We had gone shopping as she has told me she needed some toiletries, even though some toiletries has later turned into four shopping bags filled up with cloths. Then after almost three hours of buying the whole mall — ironically, she had insisted we go to a bar, I had declined at first but somehow I eventually obliged thanks to her constant pouts and mumbles.
  • I faintly remember her saying to me as we downed our second glass of whiskey. "Being a Lycan sucks you know. I wish I were human." She had said.
  • I had thrown my head back in laughter at her statement and replied. "You are the first Lycan I would ever hear that from. Most humans would kill to be in your place."
  • "Not you though, you do not want to be like us." She stared at me with skeptical eyes and it had felt like she could see through my invisible mask.
  • I did not reply her, instead I drowned myself in another glass, and another, and another till I ended up getting drunk. And now here I am.
  • I sighed tiredly as I stood up from the bed. I slipped my leg into my flops and plodded into the bathroom to freshen up since it was already getting close to seven pm. The sun had already gone down and the dark clouds were covering the sky already. I wondered why Tee would fix this time of the day to see me.
  • After freshening up and putting a simple jean trouser and a crop top, I slipped my dark glasses into my bag and also my phone, then I went out of the room. The house seemed empty at first, until I started to hear voices from Alec's closed office.
  • I slowly tiptoed towards it, it looked like there was someone else in there with him. I pressed my ear to the door and listened to their obvious argument.
  • "Alpha, this is not right! You cannot decide to take a mate from one of the Alpha King's daughter because you do not want to accept the second chance mate you have been given!" The voice sounded like that of the man who had been with Alec the first day I came into his house. I think his name was Ryan or something.
  • "You cannot tell me what to do Ryan, I can decide to take a mate of mine, I do not need your fucking advice!"
  • "Whoever you are going to pick would be our Luna, do you not think the pack would want a Luna they approve of?" Ryan was speaking calmly now.
  • "That girl is an human, she has no clue what this is about.. What am I supposed to do? Go up to her and say.. Hey Bellatrix, thank you for walking into my life at the right time and sorry you cannot leave any longer because somehow you are my second chance mate which is supposed to be rare for a Lycan like me, and add that you will be the Luna of my pack... "
  • Bellatrix... I froze. My name is Bellatrix. I let out a loud gasp and immediately covered my mouth so I won't be heard, but it was too late ad the door flew open that instant, making me loose my balance and almost fall face flat on the floor, but I am held in place by a pair of familiar strong arms, his cologne wafting through my nose as I raised my eyes to stare at his burning blue orbs.
  • "You heard." He did not ask, he already knew, and now I also knew. Somehow the universe had decided to play a very dangerous game with my life that I have to be the second chance mate of Alpha Alec — Alpha of the pack where my parent's mysterious death had taken place about two decades ago, and of course this same pack I am spying on for a man whose identity I don't even know.
  • See. . a very dangerous game.
