Chapter 4

  • Nathan:
  • Having caught her sent the second that she entered the building, I found myself frowning as I did my best to keep my eyes on Hollow.
  • Jasper Hollow, one of the most failing businessmen that was around. But I had to admit he did give me an offer that I could not just resist. The offer was to buy his company, but the offer was at a cheap price. I could not just ignore that. Especially knowing the potential that his company had.
  • I turned around to face her, and when my eyes met her, she shook her head before looking down at her feet.
  • “This has to be some kind of mistake.” I heard her mutter under her breath.
  • “I will leave the two of you to discuss through the details that you are going to be having within the company. It was a pleasure doing business with you, Nathan.” He said and I rolled my eyes that you all of us were not on first name basis and he knew that very well.
  • “The pleasure was mine. Thank you.” He got up from his desk and I watched as he walked out. Mia did not say a word for a few moments, but the second he closed the door, she turned to face me. Her eyes hardened as she shook her head.
  • “Very interesting to see you here.” I said, getting up from the chair. She was quiet. I walked around her as a predator would do to its prey, looking at her as I did. “And I have to admit, he did grow more beautiful over the years.”
  • My eyes met hers, and to my surprise, it was her palm that met my cheek.
  • “Fucking dickhead.” Was all she said before taking a step back, leaving me alone in the office as she slammed the door shut. I put my hand on my cheek, frowning at the sensation of the slap that she just gave me. The woman really did think that she could get away with it.
  • I scoffed and shook my head before walking around the office. There was a lot that I was going to need to change, and it was going to start with her being my secretary.
  • My phone rang and I raised an eyebrow, knowing that it was going to be none other than my girlfriend.
  • “You couldn't really wait for me to come back home or at least call you?” I asked the second that I answered the phone.
  • “I doubt that this should be a way for you to speak to your girlfriend, Nathan. I called you because I was concerned. I haven't heard a word from you. I've texted, I waited, I send voice notes, I even sent pictures. And yet you did not respond. He did not even bother opening them.” She said, and I rolled my eyes. I could swear that she was nothing more than a child as she reacted.
  • “That is because I had a meeting, Ariana. I don't think you'd think that I was a free man throughout the whole day.” I said, and I could imagine her rolling her eyes as I waited for a response that was going to come from her. She was not the type to understand what work was, or even if she did, she did not care.
  • “And is work more important than I am? You can't know a message or a hello, an I miss you would never harm you. But it seems to me that the feelings are just…”
  • “Ariana, don't start with me right now. I have a lot to deal with and I don't want to be dealing with something like this.” I said, stopping her.
  • “Fine, when do you want me to prepare dinner? Or are you going to choose having dinner outside again? Because it seems to me that you just keep it, neglecting, ignoring and…”
  • “I have a meeting tonight.” I said, stopping her.
  • “Of course, you do.” She said, and I hummed in response. “I guess I'll see you whenever you come home.”
  • “Goodbye.”
  • “Bye.” She said, hanging up. I stared at the phone for a few moments before looking at the door. I was going to need to deal with a lot more than I wanted to, and by a lot more I meant with a certain person that I was going to have to face for a while.
  • I tapped the desk twice before the door opened, and I raised an eyebrow, knowing that it was her.
  • “Coming to slap me again?” I asked, looking at her over my shoulder.
  • “What kind of game are you playing?” She asked, making me frown in confusion. “And don't tell me that you're not playing any games, because I can tell, and I know as well as I know my name that you are playing something.”
  • “Is that so?” I asked, turning around to face her. I smirked, raising an amused eyebrow at her. I walked towards her, my body towering over hers before saying the sentence that I knew that she was going to keep in mind. If I wanted to change my secretary a few moments ago, then I did not want to do this so now. She was going to know what it was to raise a hand on me and if she thought that she could challenge me, that she was very wrong. “I believe that it is you who slaps me in the face for telling you that the years have been kind to you. Anyway, the two of us are going to need to have a meeting. Find the right time to do so.”
  • “Never in hell.”
  • “Great. I'll pick you up at seven.”
  • “You don't have my address.” She said, crossing her arms over her chest as she looked me in the eye.
  • “I know, but it won't be very difficult to find.” I said, winking at her before my eyes hardened. “Wear something pretty. I don't need you to embarrass me, human…”
