Chapter 3

  • Mia:
  • “I, Alpha Nathan Ivanov, reject you, Mia Ortega as my mate and Luna.” His words played in my head as I walked towards the office. I did not even know why they did every year when it came to the anniversary of what would have been the night that I had my mate with me, his words keep playing in my head.
  • It has been ten years since that had happened and until now I couldn't bring myself to accept the fact that not only did he reject me, but that he used me the way that he did before he did.
  • “Focus Mia, you have a lot of work to take care of and the last thing that you are going to want is to find yourself being angry about a boy. Especially in through something and one night stand that happened ten years ago.” I muttered to myself as I put my things in the office, knowing that I was going to have a long day ahead of me. Not only did I have a lot to do, but I also had a few meetings to take care of. Boss was coming over today and with the fact that I knew that the company was going bankrupt, I knew that I was going to need to deal with it. One way or the other, I either needed to find a job or find a solution to the situation that we were in.
  • My phone buzzed on my desk and I raised an eyebrow, a small smile forming on my lips as I knew that it would be my princess. The one person who was holding me together, as she texted me before she headed off to classes. Thankfully, her teachers allowed them to have their phones with them, as long as, of course, they didn’t use their devices in class.
  • “I’m off to science. Literature was boring.” She texted, making me laugh.
  • “As long as you don’t make the classroom experience another one of your rotten egg volcanos, we should be good for the day.” I teased, texting back. I could imagine her laughing as I sent the message but the smile that was on my face was quick to fade as Kylie entered my office.
  • “Mia, boss has requested to see you.” She said, making me frown in confusion as I tried to understand what it was that she was going on about. Mr. Hollow never came early. The idea of him coming to the office, this already told me that there was a meeting or he had an investor coming. Either way, I did not know about it and that was not something that I liked. I was not prepared for whatever we had and being his personal secretary, I knew that I needed to know.
  • “Mr. Hollow, coming to the office this early?” I asked, and she raised her hands in mock surrender.
  • “He did not say anything about it. Don't ask me because I know that you will. All he said was that we call for you the second that you arrive to the office. He has guests over and mind you, he is a cute man. I have to admit every single girl within the office has been drooling over him since he walked inside.” She said and I rolled my eyes. The idea of anyone being cute in front of the other women was something that I did not care about. At this point, I did not even bother thinking of what my relationship status would be.
  • A heavy feeling settled in my chest and I knew that this was not going to be the day for me. Something inside me told me that this day was going to be a lot more difficult than I wanted it to be.
  • I put my hand on my stomach for a moment. Today. I took a deep breath, knowing that I was going to need to calm down. Whatever it is that I had to take care of, whatever it is that I had to do, I knew to manage my time later. For now, let's see what Mr. Hollow had for me. Let's just hope that he did not have another disaster that I was going to need to take care of.
  • I walked towards the office, knowing to remain calm. I knocked on the door, keeping a professional smile on my face. Mr. Hollow hated it once someone frowned in front of him. And trust me, if one did dare to think so, and if one did dare to complain about whatever work he had to give them, they were fired faster than a person can blink. It was one of the reasons why he had more employees within a month than any other company would have within a span of a whole year.
  • “Come in.” I heard Mr. Hollow say. I looked at him as I walked through the door. The man, whoever it was, had his back to me. My heart raced against my chest and for a moment I found myself hesitating as goosebumps rose over my skin. And for a second, I could have sworn that the man sitting tensed up.
  • “Mr. Hollow, I heard that you called for me. I was not aware of a meeting occurring. I apologize. Had I been informed I would have been here earlier. I did not mean to keep you waiting. Both of you.” I said, and Mr. Hollow smiled at me.
  • “Oh, it was not a scheduled meeting. Mia, you don't need to worry. However, you and I are going to need to discuss a few things because it seems to me that things are going to be changing from now on and you might need to fill in on your new job.” He said, and I frowned in confusion, processing what he was telling me. He couldn't be firing me, could he? I did not do anything that was wrong, not as far as I can remember. I was quick to neutralize my face as I remembered not to frown in front of him, but I couldn't help but find myself wondering what I did.
  • “I don't understand, boss, what do you mean by the new job? As far as I'm concerned, I do not remember speaking to you about it or even applying somewhere else.” I said, doing my best to remain calm as I asked my question.
  • “Yes. However, you know the situation within the company and you know how things have been going and because of that I have decided to sell the company. While I know that the staff might be concerned about how things are going to go, the employees are going to be wondering how they're going to manage things. The one person that I know who can manage them while things get settled down would be you. And that is why I recommended you to the new owner and CEO of the company.” He said, looking me in the eye.
  • “You sold the company already, boss?” I asked, and he nodded.
  • “Yes, and the man sitting in front of you is now the owner. Please meet your new boss, Mr. Nathan Ivanov…”
