• “Just give me the key and I will find my way out of this place, Mathilda. I cannot stay here. Maybe you can just tell them I took it away from you without your knowledge or something. The longer I stay here, the riskier it is for me and my baby. I must go and find Edison before it’s too late for me to do anything…” I begged her and she paused, thinking deeply with her lips curved downward, hesitating if it would be a good idea for her to get involved in this. But then she put her shaking hands in the pocket of her apron and fished the key to the room out of it.
• “Here, your Grace.” Mathilda put the cold, metal key in my hands and held my hand firmly, her eyes looking at me, giving me the determination I needed. “Take this. But I can’t guarantee you can escape all the guards roaming in this place, your Grace. I can’t help you anymore once you get outside of this room.”
