- The room was dim, lit only by the weak glow of the moon through the window. I did not sleep as I tried to allow myself to fall asleep. It was the one way for nurses to stay away from me.
- I lay curled beneath the blankets, trying to find comfort in the warmth, but it didn’t help. My skin prickled. The shadows felt longer than they should. The silence too heavy.
