Chapter 4 Unexpected Request
- Lying on the soft princess bed, Summer felt like she was in a dream.
- When the dream was over, it would be time to go home.
- Summer thought all she needed to do was stay quietly at the Jenson Estate until it was time, then head to City Hall to register the marriage using Yelena's ID. After that, her task would be complete.
- The Jensons thought the same at first.
- No one expected the Jackmans to send someone to pick up Yelena and stay with them for a few days.
- "What!" Summer was utterly shocked. "I have to go live at the Jackman Manor? No way, absolutely not!"
- In her desperation, Summer turned to Bryce for help.
- Bryce glanced at Travis and asked, "There's only a week left until the wedding registration. Why the sudden rush?"
- Travis politely explained, "I'm here on orders from our chairman to bring the future Mrs. Jackman for a short stay. The chairman believes that young people should spend more time together to cultivate feelings. Mr. Theodore will be home for the next few days, which is a perfect opportunity for them to develop a bond."
- Summer's eyes widened in shock!
- No way! I can't do this!
- Even Curtis and Zelena were thunderstruck.
- They exchanged helpless glances and couldn't turn down the request.
- After all, the Jackmans' demand made sense.
- Since Summer was about to protest, Bryce quickly spoke up. "It's only natural for a couple to get to know each other better. But Yelena hasn't been feeling well lately, and we don't want her to bring illness to your home. Maybe we can delay this for a few days?"
- Travis remained courteous, replying, "No wonder Ms. Jenson looks slimmer than her pictures—I see she's been unwell. Rest assured, Mr. Bryce, that the Jackmans have access to some of the world's top medical teams. We'll make sure Ms. Jenson returns healthy and well. Besides, our chairman hasn't been in the best of health lately and is eager to see the future grand daughter-in-law. Perhaps her presence will aid in his recovery."
- Bryce had no choice but to swallow his words.
- "Ms. Jenson, what do you think?" Travis then turned to Summer.
- "I don't—" Summer started to refuse but stopped when she saw Bryce discreetly rip out a check for a million dollars!
- Summer quickly changed her tone and said, "I can't let my desire to stay with my parents for a couple more days come before the chairman's health. Mommy, Dad, and Bryce—"
- Summer summoned all her best acting skills to cling to Zelena's arm and act coy. "Maybe I should stay with them for a couple of days?"
- Zelena struggled to maintain her composed, aristocratic posture. She managed an awkward smile and said, "Yes, yes, let's do that."
- Bryce hurriedly said, "Mr. Travis, if you wouldn't mind waiting a moment, Yelena needs to pack her usual belongings."
- "Of course." Travis stepped aside graciously.
- Bryce dragged Summer into the room, not giving her a chance to explode, and quickly said, "I know, I know! This isn't part of our agreement! This one million is for your trouble. Once it's over, I'll give you another million!"
- Summer smiled and held out her hand. "Deal."
- Bryce was stunned, realizing he had been tricked.
- Summer hadn't objected at all—her earlier resistance was just an act.
- Looking at the crafty girl before him, Bryce couldn't help but playfully flicked her forehead.
- It was a gesture filled with affection, one that only close family members would make.
- As soon as Bryce made the gesture, he remembered that the person standing in front of him was Summer instead of his sister.
- "I … I'll go help you pack," Bryce muttered awkwardly as he fled the room.
- Summer watched him leave, still grinning.
- So innocent!
- Less than twenty-four hours after arriving at the Jenson Estate, Summer found herself at the Jackman Manor, escorted by Travis.
- Unlike the modern, designer feel of the Jensons house, the Jackmans family home felt like stepping back into an ancient estate.
- "This is the Jackman Manor," Travis explained as they walked. "The Chancellor was the first owner during the Heston Empire. The estate underwent expansion and remodeling over time to become what it is today. Currently, only our chairman lives here, while Mr. Theodore and his parents live elsewhere."
- Back in university, Summer had visited Arlcliff Palace, and she had been mesmerized by its beauty. Now, standing in this ancient estate, she realized the Jackman Manor was no less stunning.
- In fact, it was even more vibrant, full of life, brimming with charm and splendor.
- Just then, Travis's phone rang. Summer noticed his urgency and quickly said, "If you have something to take care of, go ahead."
- Travis hesitated for a moment.
- Welcoming Yelena was important, but his boss's business was just as crucial.
- After briefly considering his options, Travis made his decision. Travis made his decision. He said, "Ms. Jenson, my sincerest apologies, but I won't be able to personally escort you. I'll have the butler take you inside."
- "It's fine," Summer waved her hand, indifferent.
- Such a beautiful estate—exploring it alone would be even more delightful.
- As Travis rushed off, Summer stood beneath a centuries-old tree, admiring the garden while waiting for someone to greet her.
