- Twenty-four hours later, Bobby woke to the warmth of sunlight streaming through her chambers and the sight of Gideon collapsed in a chair at her bedside. His head rested in his hand, exhaustion carved deep beneath his eyes, yet even in sleep his grip never loosened from hers. "He hadn't left our side, not once," Bria purred in her mind.
- "You're awake," he murmured when her touch stirred him from his vigil, his voice rough with fatigue. Gideon hopped up from the chair and sat on the bed beside her, taking her hand in his. "You had me so worried."
- Bobby ducked her head, guilt rushing in where gratitude should have been. "I'm sorry, Gideon. It wasn't my intention… I just felt so useless. I couldn't help them. Then the nightmares—"
