The servant who'd brought it had vanished as quickly as she'd appeared, leaving her alone in the vast dining hall. Afternoon light filtered through stained glass windows, painting the polished oak table in shades of amber and gold.
• Her stomach growled, a reminder that she hadn't eaten since dawn. The meat looked tender, seasoned with herbs she recognized from the manor's gardens. Everything appeared normal.
