Chapter 2 The beautiful horizon

  • My fingers hit the strings one more time before I stopped. I raised my face. They cheered me, and it was nice. I felt alive and among. These people notice me. “Thank you so much. Thank you.” I said. My guitar fell from my hand, crashing to the ground.
  • “Oh, I’ll help you with that.” A male voice said. He helped pick up the guitar. “Thank you. You didn’t really have to.” I said. I raised my face. I was sure my heart skipped a beat. My mouth was open. “hi. Rob.” I muttered off my shaking lips staring at him so close to me.
  • “Rob? Wow! I didn’t realize I was this popular.” He said.
  • “I’m sorry, I got to go.” I said trying to rush off, but he held me back by my hand. “wait wait, have we… have we met before?” he asked.
  • “We? No, I don’t think so.” I said like I was in a rush.
  • “wait, now I’m beginning to think I have seen you somewhere before. School?” he asked, holding on to my wrist.
  • “No, no. I swear Rob, we haven’t met before.” I said.
  • “You do realize you have said my name twice now right? And somehow we still have never met before.” He said giving me a cute smile. I stopped to stare at his face. Everything I’ve always wanted to look at was right in front of me and there I was, trying to run away. He reached out his hand for a handshake. “I am Robinson, girl I’ve never met before. May I know your name?”
  • I am sure my cheeks were red, as I blushed. “This could be it. Dad might just be right after all.” I said to myself.”
  • I took the hand shake. “Bella. It’s Bellamy actually.” I said.
  • “Bella Bellamy? A beautiful name for a girl so beautiful.” He said, which got me giggling. “well, what do you say, how about I walk you home?”
  • “I really don’t think there is any need for that. I’ll just take the night bus.”
  • “I insist. Besides, I think it’ll be best if a guy walked with you. You never know who’s who in the streets, especially the subway ” He said. I couldn’t refuse him anymore. “Alright, but I still think it isn’t necessary. I mean, I don’t want someone’s son, or maybe boyfriend, walking with another girl. A complete stranger for that, who he has never met or seen before.
  • “OK, first I don’t have a girlfriend, secondly, anyone ever told you talk too much?” he said laughing cutely, so attractive that I literally had to hold myself from jumping all over him and kissing that face. I had imagined it all. Me and Rob alone on a big tree, looking at each others eyes. Or us, walking down the streets holding hands and everybody else looking at us, or having a nice family dinner together and sauce just above my lips so he uses his fingers to wipe it off. And even when we kissed on my rooftop under the blue moon and beautiful stars, and even when we have sex. I have imagined everything.
  • I smiled all through while we walked to my house. I wished Harley was there to see us.
  • “so how did you get to know me?” Rob asked.
  • I coughed. “Umm, I… don’t remember. You are popular amongst… the girls. Yes, that’s it. I first heard your name in school girls phone. It was her ringtone, and then a couple more girls were always mentioning you too. Even guys too.” I said.
  • “Hmm, really?” he asked.
  • “Yeah of course, all your basketball scores. You are famous for your skills with skateboards, and… the internet. You Instagram followers are much. So one day I just decided to see for myself who this super cool guy was.
  • He laughed. “Super cool?! Nah, you ate just trying to make me feel full of myself. That’s what you are doing. I am not supercool. I can go with popular, even though that’s not really it, but supercool? No.” He said.
  • “why would you say that?” I asked. “of course you are supercool. You know it for a fact.” I said.
  • He nodded. “Yeah, but not cool enough. I want to be cool enough to have a taste of your lips this night.” Rob said. I smiled and looked away shyly. I can’t believe I was still blushing hard over him even at this age.
  • We made a halt at the front of my house. First person I saw was dad, up in my room. He gave me two thump ups, and kept smiling like I had won the whole world.
  • “So, you really live here huh? Wow, small world!” He said, looking around as if to spot my house. “Where exactly?” he asked.
  • I looked at my house. “We are here.” I answered. I turned around and made a spin. “I am Mr. Bakers daughter.”
  • “you live here? You have got to be kidding. Since when?” he asked.
  • “Since… as long as I can remember.” I answered.
  • “OK, that’s another bad lie.. I’ve lived her for years. If Jared had a sister, I believe I would have known.” He said. “I live…”
  • “next door, I know. Your mom’s a doctor. Dad works with Amazon. Your sister is a lawyer, and you plan to join the US Marines . You love cats. At junior high, you ran away from home because your mom hit a stray cat. You were eleven then.” I said, laughing at the end. “My brother called you the Barbie princess.” I said, laughing loudly. He smiled. I admired his looks while I laughed. How could a smile be so perfect? I was convinced I was in love, deeply in love with Rob. I summed up courage and asked him if we could spend some more time on our rooftop.
  • He still very much found it hard to believe I was someone who lived close by.
  • Tbc…
