- The noise inside the main auditorium on the second floor sounded like a raging sea.
- I stood in the dim wings behind the heavy velvet stage curtains, my arms resting straight at my sides. Through the narrow gap in the fabric, I could see a wall of bright, blinding white lights pointing directly at the empty mahogany podium in the center of the stage.
