Chapter 8 At the Mall

  • Eve
  • I look around the busy food stall and begins to salivate. Everything look so delicious, but I settle for pizza. I bought a meal for two. Two large pizza, two bags of chips and a large drink. Too much food? I don’t think so.
  • “I didn’t know you could eat so much, not to mention the grease and calories.” I frown, recognizing who the voice belongs to. Chris made his way over and took the seat opposite of me.
  • “I could fit more if I wanted to.” I roll my eyes, taking a big bite of my pizza.
  • “Wow, how do you manage to stay so small, when you eat that much?” He asks with a smirk, probably calling me a glutton in his head.
  • “I had morning runs. By the way where is your date?” I ask before taking another bite out of the pizza.
  • “I made her angry and she left.” He said nonchalantly.
  • “What did you do this time?” Who would walk out on him like that?
  • “Well, we were walking around, then I saw you going from store to store and stop paying attention to her. She notices and make a big scene in one of the stores and then walk off on me.” He explain in the most casual nonchalant tone I’ve ever heard. Does he not care that his date just left him like that?
  • “Shouldn’t you be…I don't know, mad or sad that your date ditch you. But here you are giddy and smiley.” I point him out. He just shrugs.
  • “Why would I be? I didn't ask her out, she ask me. I was just looking to have a good time tonight, since she offering.” Right, he doesn’t care about anyone but himself.
  • Is this his reaction to every girl that he goes out with? I guess this is how popular people are. They get all the attention from every girl, so they don’t see the value in anyone. The thought doesn’t sit right with me, now I’m piss off.
  • “How did you know I was with a girl?” He smirk as if to ask if I was stalking him.
  • “You told me this morning, and I saw your car flying by while waiting for the bus. I’m not stalking you, just saw it by chance.” I explained, defensively.
  • “Uh huh.” He nod and pause for a few second. “Relax, I wasn’t thinking that you are stalking me.” He reassured me but laughed at my overreaction. Something tells me he is not entirely convince.
  • “What are you doing here?” he changes the subject. Something I'm grateful for cause the conversation was getting awkward.
  • “I was shopping for a gift for my mother birthday.” I answer, taking another bite of the pizza. I was getting full at this point and begin dread the thought of having to eat the second piece. I had overestimated me appetite.
  • “Are you guys having a party or something?” He asks, curiously.
  • “No. My mom stops celebrating her birthday.” He wait for an explanation, but I didn’t really want to give. “It complicated, but I still give her a gift every year. So, here I am.”
  • “You must love your mother very much.” He smile, for some reason it seems fake. I might be reading too much into it.
  • “Of course, don’t you?” I answer, putting my observation to the back of my mind.
  • He nodded to my inquiry and went quiet. I got the feeling I might struck a nerve when I ask that so, stay quiet. By now I’ve finished the first piece of pizza.
  • To break the awkward silence, I offer him the other piece. I notice that he didn’t have any food the whole he was sitting here, plus I was full. It would be a waste to just throw it out.
  • “Do you want the other pieces of pizzas; I don’t think I can finish.”
  • “Yes, I thought you wouldn’t offer. I’m starving.” He smile, genuine one this time. I must really have struck a nerve earlier. I watch him devour the thing without hesitation. He must be famished.
  • “If you are starving, just get yourself some food, duh.” I said, sarcastically.
  • “I can't. Karrie took my wallet.” He said, taking his last bite.
  • “Karrie…who?”
  • “The girl I was with today.” I burst out laughing.
  • “Serve you right for toying with her.” I said between laughs.
  • I took a sip of the soda to celebrate his suffering. I continue to laugh satisfy at the punishment that the girl bestows upon him.
  • ***Slurp***(the sound of drink emptying)
  • “Wait that my dr…” I couldn’t finish my sentence before he done with the drink.
  • “Oh, I’m sorry, I finished it.” He said apologetically.
  • “No, it fine.” I blush a little.
  • I was not mad at all, but I was just drinking out of the same straw. We just had an indirect kiss. I wonder what it would he like to kiss those amazing lips. Damn it, stop it brain.
  • “Ready to go? I will take you home. You did take the bus here right?” His voice brings me back to reality.
  • “Uh, yes, but wait I have to get takeout for my mom.” I point to one of the stalls.
  • I heard an 'Ok' and start walking toward the food stall, cursing myself for having such weird thoughts. I was back after a 20 minutes wait, and we head home.
  • The 15 minutes’ drive home was spent in silence, it not that I’m mad but this is the first time I sat in the car alone with a boy that making me feel thing I’ve never felt before. I thank him for the ride and say good night to Chris before entering my house.
  • I walk in on my mom was passed out drunk again. I told her that their food in the fridge, before putting the takeout away. I was tired, so I went to bed early.
  • I lay on my bed, reminiscing about Chris. It seems that every time I met him, I allow him to take other steps into my life. Not only that, the closer he gets to me, the more I feel for him. Feel what exactly, I don't know. I’ve never felt like this with anyone before. Ugh, I don't like this one bit.
