• Dane's eyes flashed with anger, his grip on the pistol tightening. He knew the gravity of William's false accusation, and he was prepared to defend his honour.
• William quickly ran to Simon. "S…sir…Simon…" he gave a terrible cry.
• Henry quickly ran to get his doctor's bag, before hastening to see if Simon was really beyond all help although in his heart he knew by the size of the bloodstain and the swiftness which it spread, that Simon Denham wasn't going to make it alive. He went on his knees to search for a pulse, but found none, and he slowly looked up.
