Chapter 96 Derrick

• I move around the kitchen, prepping the vegetables for dinner. I haven’t been able to stop smiling all day, anticipating my dinner date with Veronica tonight. Not a date, I try to remind myself for the hundredth time. It’s just dinner and she’s only coming over because I lost the bet.
• I’ve been thinking about Veronica even more than usual the last two days. I leave tomorrow to head to the Red Ridge Pack and my wolf whines at the thought of leaving her. I had volunteered to go so that Father could see a new doctor for his illness. I’m regretting that now, especially since Veronica’s birthday is two days after I leave. I won’t be back until after her birthday and I was going to give her present to her tonight but then I thought better of it. If I wait until tomorrow, I can stop by the station and give it to her then. That way, I’ll have more time with my girl.
• There’s a soft knock on the front door and Arrick perks up inside of me, his tail wagging when Veronica’s sweet scent hits us. I toss off my apron before I head to answer the door, taking a deep breath to try to calm down before I open the door for her.
