Chapter 3 The Bauhinia Card

  • Edward took a number for the queue when he reached the bank.
  • He was already holding the Bauhinia Card when it was his turn. To his surprise, the bank teller was Beatrice.
  • What a coincidence!
  • Edward recognized her as Randy's girlfriend.
  • Although they had never met, he knew about her through Olivia.
  • He wasn't resentful towards Beatrice at all, but he was a little annoyed with her.
  • She was beautiful and had a successful career. Too bad, she had her eyes on Randy the mama boy.
  • Edward wasn't concerned about the money for their marriage. However, he was angry at Olivia and Randy for using Clara's savings and taking advantage of him.
  • "Hello, Sir. How can I help you?" Beatrice greeted Edward with a smile.
  • Edward took a deep breath and handed the Bauhinia Card to her. "Hello, I would like to make a withdrawal."
  • Beatrice frowned as she examined the card. "Sir, are you sure this is a valid bank card?"
  • She looked at the Bauhinia Card puzzledly.
  • She had never encountered a card like this before throughout her career.
  • Edward was stunned. He wondered if Robert had given him a fake bank card, but he dismissed that idea soon.
  • It was unlikely because Robert could easily pay 30 thousand dollars for Clara's medical expenses.
  • "Yes." Edward nodded and scrutinized Beatrice.
  • He couldn't estimate her height as she was seated, but her professional attire accentuated her figure. She looked vulnerable with her fair skin and delicate features.
  • He sighed. How could such a lovely girl end up with someone like Randy?
  • Beatrice's frown deepened as she scanned the card with the card reader.
  • The bank system couldn't read the Bauhinia Card at all and she was getting impatient.
  • Smack!
  • Beatrice tossed the Bauhinia Card onto the counter and said coldly, "I'm sorry, Sir. Our system is unable to read this bank card."
  • D*mn it!
  • Did Robert trick me?
  • Robert spent 30 thousand dollars and now he gave me a fake bank card. A scam doesn't work like that, right?
  • "Uhh, could you please try again? This is a legitimate bank card," Edward pleaded.
  • After separating from Olivia, he didn't want to rent the old apartment anymore. He was looking for a new place for himself and his mother.
  • He was broke after Olivia took his last 30 thousand dollars. He couldn't pay for Clara's medical fees and he couldn't support himself either.
  • "Sir, are you here to cause trouble?"
  • Beatrice raised an eyebrow. She said with a cold expression, "I've noticed your strange behavior. You should at least bring a real bank card if you're here to flirt with me. Please leave now and don't hold up the customers waiting behind you. Otherwise, I'll have to call security."
  • Edward was taken aback.
  • Before he could explain, Beatrice signaled for security.
  • Two guards approached Edward and other customers were attracted by the commotion.
  • Edward anxiously pointed to the card. "This is my bank card, I'm here for a legitimate transaction. Why are you chasing me away?"
  • Beatrice remained silent.
  • The security guards said sternly, "Sir, please leave. It's working hours now. We will have to call the police if you continue to disturb our bank employees."
  • Edward was speechless. He couldn't get his money and he was being slandered as a pervert.
  • Just then, a chubby middle-aged man approached them.
  • "What's going on?"
  • Beatrice, who had a cold expression, suddenly acted pitiful and complained coquettishly, "Mr. Brown, this man brought a fake card to withdraw money and kept sneaking glances at me."
  • Edward was flabergastered.
  • Just a moment ago Beatrice was as cold as ice, and now she was alluring.
  • Olivia once told him that Beatrice was a conservative girl. She only allowed Randy to hold her hands even after getting into a relationship with him.
  • Edward wasn't stupid, or blind.
  • Conservative my foot!
  • The bank manager, Mike Brown, immediately glared at Edward.
  • "Sir, please behave yourself in the bank. I'm the manager here. Please leave now, otherwise don't blame us for asking the security guards to throw you out."
  • The two security guards were smiling smugly. Everyone in the bank knew that Beatrice was Mike's woman.
  • Edward was asking for trouble by hitting on Beatrice.
  • Upon hearing the manager's words, Beatrice became more coquettish. "Mr. Brown, why bother talking to such a person, just throw him out directly."
  • Edward was furious but he did not get up.
  • Robert gave him the Bauhinia Card to withdraw money. He wasn't here to get humiliated.
  • Previously, he was just annoyed with Beatrice, but now, her attitude made him furious!
  • "Throw him out!"
  • Mike shouted when he saw Edward didn't budge.
  • If it weren't for his position as the bank manager, he would have asked the security guards to throw Edward out immediately for peeping at Beatrice.
  • The security guards were about to step forward as the crowd gathered around them.
  • Edward wasn't a weak person, he was about to explode from anger.
  • Smack!
  • He slammed the Bauhinia Card heavily on the counter and bellowed, "I came here to withdraw money, not to be falsely accused as a pervert by you. Are you forcing me to make a scene?"
  • The security guards immediately stopped approaching him.
  • Mike was glaring at him but then he noticed the Bauhinia Card on the counter.
  • Mike was dumbfounded and his eyes widened. "This ... "
  • He broke out in a cold sweat.
  • "Mr. Brown, it's a fake." Beatrice sneered. However, she was shocked to see Mike sweating profusely.
  • In an instant, Mike wiped away the sweat on his forehead and cracked a smile.
  • He suddenly became polite towards Edward. "Sir, I'm sorry. I didn't know that you have a Bauhinia Card. Please come to my office, I will personally assist you with your transactions."
  • Beatrice trembled in disbelief. "Is this really a bank card?"
  • "Shut up!"
  • Mike glared at Beatrice, then turned to Edward with a smile. "Sir, this way please."
  • Finally, someone who knows how things work.
  • Edward raised an eyebrow and glanced at Beatrice disdainfully. Then, he got up to follow Mike to the office.
  • His top priority was to withdraw money. Mike had already backed down, so there was no need for him to make a fuss. Now, he knew what kind of person Beatrice was.
  • He was a little excited. Only the managerial level bank staff could recognize the Bauhinia Card given by Robert, so it must be very rare. He wondered how much money was in the card.
  • As soon as they entered the office, the bank became noisy.
  • The crowd who was observing the commotion were shocked by the turn of events.
  • Beatrice was frozen like a statue. She was trembling in fear and her eyes were teary.
  • She realized that she was doomed.
  • Mike couldn't even pull the strings for her this time.
