- Kara didn’t seem to hear her. She was lost in her grief, too consumed by the weight of what had happened to Kaden. I stood there, watching, unsure of how to console her, my own heart heavy with the fear of what was coming next.
- Finally, when Kara’s sobs subsided and the silence took over the room, she lifted her tear-streaked face to look at me. Her eyes were swollen, her voice trembling. "What about my son, Hilda?" she asked, almost pleading. "Where is he? What happened to him?"
