Chapter 44 A Step Closer

• The young man smiled, but there was something evil in his eyes. “I was just wondering...” He took a step closer. “What’s your plan for him?”
• Before I could react, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small penknife. My breath caught in my throat as he flashed the blade in front of me, moving with such speed that I barely had time to respond.
• “Get away from me!” I shouted, trying to push him back, but in a blur of movement, he grabbed Hilda from my arms. My heart stopped as I saw the knife gleam in the dim light.
