• Katrina stormed into the small, cramped apartment, her face streaked with tears and her chest heaving with the effort of trying to hold back sobs. Valentina, hearing the door slam, rushed out from the tiny kitchen, her eyes widening in concern as she saw the state of her daughter.
• Without a word, she enveloped Katrina in a tight embrace, rubbing her back in an attempt to soothe her. "What happened?"
