Chapter 6 Financial Compensation, Nothing More

  • Sierra was lost, wondering what was up with her again.
  • "Sorry, but I'm not feeling like divorcing right now," she said.
  • Megan didn't hold back and went straight into insults, "Seriously, Sierra, have you no shame? Jeremy was supposed to be my fiancé. You're just swooping in. He wouldn't even have an interest in someone as unattractive as you!"
  • Sierra couldn't help but laugh. "Hey, it was you who used my mom to pressure me into marrying him in the first place. How long has it been? You have a reason for changing your mind, don't you?"
  • "Whatever, I don't care. Sierra, you better tell my fiancé right now that you want a divorce, or I won't let you off easy. And, about your mom being in a coma, don't expect her to wake up anytime soon!"
  • Megan's words about her mom hit Sierra hard. Her eyes got all red, and she spoke each word slowly, "Megan, just because I used to let you walk all over me, you think you can call the shots now? Let me tell you, no matter what, I'm not divorcing him!"
  • She hung up, wiped away her tears, gritted her teeth, and got back to work with a determined attitude.
  • Her phone buzzed again, but Sierra ignored it until she was done for the day.
  • Checking the missed calls, besides Megan's, there were calls from her dad and Jeremy.
  • What's with these three? Did they decide to take turns bombarding me with calls?
  • Sierra didn't want to deal with her dad, but she had to pick up Jeremy's call. Maybe he needed her to act in front of his grandma again.
  • "Hello? Need something?" she asked.
  • Jeremy said, "I'm outside the hospital. Come out immediately. There's something we need to discuss."
  • From his tone, it sounded pretty serious.
  • "Okay, wait a minute," Sierra replied.
  • Worried it might be urgent, she dashed out without changing out of her work clothes.
  • In the hospital parking lot, a Maybach waited.
  • From a distance, Jeremy watched as Sierra, dressed in white, hurried over, running lightly.
  • As she reached him, he rolled down the window.
  • Sierra bent down to meet his gaze, breathing a little hard. Her cheeks were flushed red, and though she had a birthmark on her left cheek, it didn't seem too noticeable after seeing it for so long.
  • Her clothes hung loose, like they were a size too big, with her collarbone peeking out as she tried to catch her breath.
  • The setting sun's rays cast a soft glow, softening his perfect facial features and taking away some of the coldness.
  • His eyes were deep, his jawline strong, curving into a sexy arc down to his throat.
  • Sierra looked up with a bit of confusion, but Jeremy had already pressed down an unusual sensation.
  • In a detached tone, he asked, "Why the rush?"
  • Sierra was aggrieved. Didn't you ask me to hurry up?
  • Jeremy's gaze shifted away from her face as he ordered, "Hop in."
  • He shifted to the other side to give her space.
  • The car door opened slowly.
  • Sierra didn't argue, simply getting in. "Do you need to talk about something important? Is it about your grandma–"
  • "Let's just get divorced within three days," Jeremy cut in, getting right to the point.
  • Sierra was taken aback.
  • Three months had suddenly become three days. She couldn't wrap her head around it.
  • "Mr. Hoffman, are you also the type to flip-flop on decisions?" she asked.
  • What was going on today? Megan inexplicably pushed her to divorce, and now he was suggesting the same thing.
  • Jeremy found himself feeling guilty under Sierra's clear, unclouded gaze after her questioning.
  • "If you need money, I can compensate you, but that's all I'll offer," he said.
  • Sierra gave a wry smile. "Sure, you're loaded, but I'm not taking what's not rightfully mine. All I need is three months."
  • A hint of anger flickered in Jeremy's eyes. "Sierra, what's your game here? Do you honestly think I'll fall for you in three months, and then you can keep living the high life?"
  • Sierra felt insulted, glaring at him. "Have I even enjoyed your riches and luxury yet?"
  • Jeremy was caught off guard.
  • Yeah, after marrying me, she didn't ask for anything. Instead, she went back to the hospital and took up a job that barely paid 750 dollars a month.
  • "I couldn't care less about being some 'young mistress'! And as for making you fall for me? Sorry, but I'm not interested in you or your money!" Sierra said with disdain.
  • Jeremy was taken aback. This ugly woman looked down on me and claimed to have no interest in me or my wealth.
  • Where did she get such nerve?
  • Jeremy's gaze hardened as he reached out and grabbed her.
  • "Sierra, don't turn it down or you'll face the consequences!"
  • Sierra tried to shake off his hand. "Let me go! Don't touch me!"
  • Don't touch me?
  • It seemed like Jeremy's patience was being pushed to the limit by her provocation.
  • He not only didn't release his grip but tightened it even more. However, her hand felt so delicate, like it might break with just a twist.
  • Sierra's brows knitted, pain evident on her face. "It hurts! Let me go!"
  • Jeremy's heart unexpectedly softened, and he was about to let go.
  • But Sierra found an opportunity and forcefully pushed him away.
  • Jeremy's chest suddenly tightened, and he released his grip. Seizing the chance, Sierra dashed out.
  • "Ugh … " came a pained grunt from behind her.
  • Sierra's steps abruptly halted, and she turned around to find Jeremy curled up, clutching his chest. His features contorted in pain.
  • She stood there, stunned, suddenly remembering that Jeremy had a heart condition. He is nothing more than a fragile doll!
