Chapter 7 It Was Chester
- Chester!
- Zelda stared in shock at Chester.
- Is that really Chester driving such a high-end car? And emerging from a villa community?
- "Good morning!" The security guard straightened up the moment he saw Chester.
- "Are you sure someone like him could actually live here?" Zelda asked the guard with disdain.
- She knew Chester well and assumed he was pretending, renting a luxury car, and bribing the guard.
- However, the guard paid no attention to Zelda.
- "Young man, don't sell your integrity for a bit of cash!" Zelda taunted the guard.
- The guard glanced at Zelda. "I know exactly who our residents are."
- "Yes, it's all rented. Feel free to call security to throw me out!" Chester said, approaching Zelda with a smirk.
- "Chester, come here! I need to talk to you!" Zelda shouted, reaching for him.
- "Madam, please be respectful. This is not the place for such behavior!" The guard stepped between Zelda and Chester.
- "What behavior? Even this is more respect than he deserves!" Zelda pointed at Chester.
- "Security, we have a situation at the main gate!" The guard spoke into his intercom.
- Within moments, several security personnel arrived and restrained Zelda.
- "What are you doing? You're violating my rights!" Zelda protested.
- "Madam, please leave!" The security guards escorted Zelda out.
- "How much did he pay you to help him?" Zelda demanded, pointing at Chester.
- Several security guards, including the one from earlier, regarded Zelda with icy vigilance, ready to intervene again if she caused further trouble.
- Chester observed the entire spectacle with a detached demeanor.
- Some people refuse to acknowledge the truth even when it's right in front of them.
- Chester got into his car, preparing to leave.
- "Wait, Chester! Do you know someone at Callister Group?" Zelda demanded, blocking his path.
- "Yes, I do. But do you believe me?" Chester replied with a smirk.
- He didn't comprehend why Zelda suddenly asked him this question, but Chester couldn't be bothered to respond. People like her existed solely within their own delusions.
- "Chester, you—!" Zelda fumed.
- "Please step aside and stop disrupting the order of our community. If you persist, we will call the authorities!" The security guard and several others quickly intervened, pulling Zelda away.
- Riverside Residence was an upscale community, and these guards were well-compensated to provide impeccable service to the residents. They couldn't allow anyone to harass a resident right under their noses.
- "Let go of me! Let go…" Zelda struggled, but it was futile. She could only watch as Chester drove away.
- "How much did he pay you to play along with him?" Zelda turned to the guards. "Renting a car and a house? He must be broke by now, and you all are really going above and beyond!"
- "Our villas at Riverside Residence have never been open for public sale. Do you think anyone who can afford one would rent it out? What a joke!" The security guard looked at Zelda as if she were a fool.
- "Move along, or we'll call the police!" another guard added, shooing Zelda away.
- Zelda was driven out like a stray dog.
- She stared in disbelief at the row of luxurious villas and the impeccably dressed guards. Could Chester really be living here after leaving us?
- ...
- At Emilia's company, during the shareholders' meeting.
- When it was revealed that Derek wasn't the one who had helped Emilia, the atmosphere turned bleak.
- "Miss Parker, we have a problem!" Suddenly, the company accountant burst in.
- "What's wrong?" Emilia asked, standing up.
- "The suppliers of our raw materials are here, demanding payment!" the accountant reported.
- "What? They were eager to sign contracts with us before, and now they're kicking us when we're down! Tell them the contract terms haven't expired yet. If they want money, they'll have to wait!" Emilia slammed her hand on the table.
- "Miss Parker, this can't go on indefinitely. We need to find the person who helped us." Emilia's secretary Sherry urged.
- "Miss Parker, think carefully. Who could it be?" the sales manager advised.
- "There was someone…" Emilia recounted her conversation with Zelda to everyone.
- After hearing her story, they all looked astonished.
- "Chester? How could it be him? Isn't he just a live-in son-in-law? He only did household chores for Miss Parker and couldn't even hold a job!" the sales manager said.
- "I don't think it's him…" Emilia shook her head.
- "Miss Parker, whether it's him or not, just go and ask him!" Sherry suggested.
- "But we're already divorced," Emilia said softly.
- "What? When did this happen?" Sherry asked, shocked.
- "The day before our company's crisis…" Emilia replied.
- "Could this be Chester's revenge? Did he call off our deal with Callister Group because of the divorce? The timing is too coincidental!" the sales manager speculated.
- "I don't think so. I've seen Chester a few times at Emilia's place. He doesn't seem like the vindictive type." Sherry shook her head.
- As everyone was worrying, the accountant returned. "Miss Parker, the creditors have left, but they're not agreeing to the contract terms. They've given us just one day. They'll be back tomorrow!"
- At that moment, Emilia's phone rang.
- "Emilia, I went to see Chester today. You know what? He's living at Riverside Residence and driving a Land Rover! He's got money. I think we should have asked him for more than 45 thousand. Considering the two years of your youth he wasted, we should have asked for hundreds of thousands!" Zelda's voice came through, gritting her teeth.
- "What? Your mom said Chester is driving a Land Rover and living at Riverside Residence?"
- Before Emilia could react, Sherry, standing next to her, was already in shock.
