Chapter 13 A Costly Mistake
- I scurried out of the room, tears welling my eyes. What had I done to deserve this accusation and cold attitude? I was just trying to help but it seemed the more I tried, the worse was his attitude towards me.
- My legs took me to the kitchen. I sat on one of the three stools surrounding the very wide, marbled island. A tear dropped on the gleaming surface. My reflection was quite opaque but I looked still.
- My thoughts were overcame with desolate things and words. Bleak reminders of an old life. I wondered which was better. Homeless, hungry but had no one who paid me mind.
