Chapter 20

• Rafael was there and held out my pack, I took it and quickly hugged it against my chest while I stared at Victor’s heaving, large chest. Quinton mumbled something about grey hair under his breath as he walked away. I turned to see Troy was hugging Daxx, and wondered if she was okay. The others were shaking their heads, but were finally moving away and not staring at me. Without lifting my head, I moved my eyes until I met very upset green ones. “I’m okay,” I told him hoping that was all it would take. I doubted it, but it was worth a try.
• His jaw clenched a few times as he looked down at me. He opened his mouth and then closed it again. His eyes were now red and somehow the color suited the vibes coming off him. “Why…” His lifted one of those big hands and waved it around, “What possessed you to do something as reckless at that?”
• I frowned, if he thought that was reckless, he didn’t know my life at all, which of course he didn’t. “I like climbing. I’m good at it.” I nodded.
