Chapter 5 The Children Are Her Pride

  • "Those children are so adorable, I really want to go up and hug them."
  • "Whose kids are they? Their parents are so lucky!"
  • A young woman stepped forward with a smile. "Hello there, can I take a picture with you?" she asked the kids.
  • The little girl giggled sweetly and said in a melodious voice, "I have to ask my mom." Then, she turned and raised her hands high. "Mommy, over here!" she called out.
  • Everyone followed her gaze to see a woman approaching in a white top and blue shorts.
  • Her hair was in an old-fashioned bun, and she wore vintage gold-rimmed glasses. Her complexion was sallow.
  • Many felt disappointed, and some expressed their disdain, "Seriously? Is that woman the kids' mother? How could such an ugly woman have such pretty kids?"
  • "Maybe the dad's genes are strong. Haha, beauty and the beast."
  • Hearing the comments, the little girl was upset. "My mommy is the most beautiful person in the world!" she yelled, cheeks puffed out. "You're mean! I won't take pictures with you!"
  • Clara heard her daughter's words as she approached. She called out to them with a smile, "Children."
  • Ella Robson immediately ran towards her mom with a beaming smile. While her twin, Ethan Robson, remained still, he rolled his eyes a little and radiated a cold aura.
  • Clara touched Ella’s face and asked, "Don't you know you shouldn't talk to strangers?"
  • "I understand, Mommy. Give me a kiss," Ella said. The little girl then tiptoed and hugged her mother tightly. She lifted her head and demanded a kiss from her mother. Her adorableness melted everyone's hearts.
  • Just then, a woman's voice interrupted, "Clara, you heartless thing, you finally decided to come back!"
  • Ethan looked at that woman. She was wearing a bright red dress with wavy chestnut-coloured hair that fell to her waist.
  • The woman dashed towards Clara. Ethan quickly stepped forward, blocking her before she could reach his mother. His brows twisted with coldness as he questioned, "Who are you calling heartless?"
  • Hazel Harper stopped in her tracks, her gaze shifting from Ethan to Clara and Ella.
  • She wasn't paying attention earlier, but when she took a good look at them, she became confused.
  • Were these Clara’s kids? Mixed-blood? Did Clara marry a foreigner?
  • "Ethan, be polite. This is Aunt Hazel," Clara said gently, holding Ella and patting Ethan's shoulder. Her face was beaming with a smile.
  • Hazel's eyes widened in shock. These were indeed Clara's kids. She hadn't even started dating yet, but Clara's children were all grown up.
  • She took a closer look at Clara. Her friend looked like she was in her thirties—nothing like the beauty she once was.
  • With Clara's introduction, Ella approached Hazel. "Mommy told me about you; I'm Ella," she said sweetly, then smiled.
  • Her sweet smile charmed Hazel, preventing her from questioning Clara further. She carried Ella in her arms without a second thought.
  • Ethan casted a glance at his mother. Then, he took off his sunglasses and greeted politely, "Hello, Aunt Hazel."
  • Hazel was still reeling from her initial shock; now she felt envy creeping in. She remarked, "Clara, you're incredible! Your kids are such charming talkers. They've melted my heart!"
  • "Of course, didn't you know whose kids they are?" Clara said. She smiled proudly; after all, her children were her pride.
