Chapter 14 Coincidence

  • "She actually cursed Lucy as brainless. She's our boss's rumoured girlfriend. This woman is very bold; is she considering ending her career?"
  • "Lucy is a well-known model, and she's got Mr. Wood backing her. That old woman is asking for trouble by angering Lucy."
  • Lucy heard those murmurs from the onlookers. She puffed up with pride and challenged, "I don't understand. How could you even compete for the role of spokesperson? You've got zero image, and your voice is awful."
  • Clara was stunned and asked, "Compete for the spokesperson role?" But I'm here for the planning department interview!
  • "Stop playing dumb with me! That was the final round of interviews for the spokesperson. Do you really think you can beat me?" Lucy lifted her hand and struck a pose to show off her figure.
  • Clara's expression changed. She'd gone to the wrong place! Hazel had mixed up the interview location!
  • She chuckled softly as she observed Lucy flaunting her figure.
  • Clara declared, "You won't be the spokesperson for the new product."
  • Lucy stiffened. She rebuked, "Nonsense. No one suits that role better than I do."
  • Her voice grew sharp, and she questioned, "Who do you think you are to give orders around here?"
  • Clara's smile grew wider, and she said, "Sorry, but I'm in charge of promoting the new product, including selecting the spokesperson. Lucy, if you have any questions, you can take them up with Mr. Wood."
  • "You ... " Lucy's agape as she watched Clara walk away. She couldn't utter a word.
  • Outside her house, the door swung open before Clara pulled out her keys.
  • When she saw her daughter's radiant smile, it instantly lifted her spirits.
  • "Mommy, give me a hug," Ella said, her voice sweet and soft. Her arms spread wide open.
  • "Good girl, where's your brother?" Clara scooped up her daughter and closed the door.
  • "He said you must be tired from work and wants to make you something delicious."
  • Clara grew anxious when she heard this. What was Ethan doing in the kitchen again? She quickly put Ella down and ran towards the kitchen.
  • "Ethan!"
  • Scooping the broth into a large bowl, Ethan said with ease, "Mom, relax. Dinner's almost ready. Did Aunt Hazel come back with you?"
  • Looking at the neatly arranged dishes on the dining table, Clara was impressed with Ethan's capabilities.
  • "Mom, how did your interview go?" Ethan asked anxiously. Despite his young age, he carried himself like an adult.
  • Clara looked at her son. That man's image suddenly flashed through her mind. If he found out ...
  • "Mommy, what's wrong?" Ella pouted her lips. The little girl was on the verge of tears.
  • Clara quickly stretched out her arms and pulled both of her children into them. She said, "Both of you are my lucky stars. The interview went great. I nailed it."
  • Just as the trio was having an affectionate moment, the door slammed open with a loud bang, and Hazel burst into the apartment in a whirlwind of energy.
  • "Clara, you can kill me. I gave you the wrong interview location," Hazel said. When she saw Ethan's frown, she stopped short. At a glance, she noticed the boy highly resembled his boss.
  • When that thought struck her, Hazel's expression shifted. She grabbed Clara and asked in a low voice, "Clara, have you noticed that Ethan looks a lot like Mr. Wood?"
  • Clara's heart thumped at the question. She explained, "Coincidences happen all the time. Just look at Ella; she's his twin sister, but one looks mixed-race and the other looks like a Lordranian."
  • "True, just a coincidence. But just make sure Mr. Wood never sees Ethan. Otherwise ... "
