Chapter 10 You Shouldn't Joke About This
- Should I fire everyone in the HR department?
- With that in mind, Jake immediately made a phone call.
- "You chose an ugly woman to enter the casting for the new face of Woods Corporation's ad campaign? And with such an unpleasant voice?"
- "What? That's not true; they're all gorgeous. Lucy, who has recently been associated with Mr. Wood, is the most stunning. Mr. Hoffman, you shouldn't joke about this!"
- "Then why did I just see an ugly woman heading up to the fifteenth floor?" Jake asked, bewildered.
- "Our company held two interviews today. The other one is for the planning department, but even that department also chooses attractive people. Except for ... "
- "Except for who?" Jake pressed for an answer. That woman was bold. Something exciting would happen when she encountered Leon.
- "Ms. Harper recommended her. Her name is Kara Robson, she just returned from Efril. Previously, she was the director of the planning department at TE Group."
- The revelation left Jake speechless. She was quite the surprise candidate; she was formerly a planning director at TE Group. Could she be the one responsible for the company losing a major contract last year?
- If they could recruit such talent, it would be a significant gain for the company.
- Fine, ugly or not, as long as she has talent.
- Around the corner on the fifteenth floor.
- Clara stepped off the elevator and found the hallway filled with beauties in all sorts of styles. The planning department's interview was supposed to be about brains, but these women were all focused on their appearance.
- "What's wrong with this company? Why would they let someone like that join the interview?" One woman put away her powder puff, her expression full of disdain.
- Clara's gaze swept across those women.
- "No matter how hard she tries, she's just an ugly duckling. Coming here to interview is just asking for humiliation." The woman sneered with a condescending smile.
- "No. 3 to 5, please enter the waiting room."
- With the announcement, the woman entered the room confidently, wearing a smile and holding her head high as she walked.
- Clara furrowed her brow, feeling puzzled by the situation. But surely Hazel wouldn't have directed her to the wrong interview location, would she?
- "I heard Mr. Wood might be coming."
- "Really? My makeup is a mess. I need to fix it."
- "Why bother? I just saw Lucy, Mr. Wood's rumoured girlfriend."
- Clara stood quietly to the side, listening to the women's conversation that always seemed to revolve around Leon.
- In the five years since she'd seen him, he seemed to have become even more captivating.
- If he discovered that Ethan and Ella were his children, even if he didn't like them, he would surely try every means to take them away.
- This thought sent a shiver down her spine. Ella didn't resemble him, but Ethan was the spitting image of his father.
- "No. 6 to No. 8, please enter the waiting room. The last person to arrive needs to draw a number."
- Lost in her thoughts, Clara didn't realise someone was speaking to her until the man called out again. "Hey, you! The older lady standing over there, come here and draw a number."
- His comment elicited laughter from the crowd. Clara scanned the room, then walked over and drew a number. It was number 10. Just as she tucked it away, she heard the sound of high heels approaching, and a woman stopped in front of her.
- Looking up, she saw a woman with wavy hair standing in front of her, sporting fiery red lips, black eyeliner extending to the corners of her eyes, and dark eyeshadow.
- She wore a purple dress and black high heels.
