• Panic surged through Avelyn as her heart began pounding. Who could that be? She glanced back at the river, her instincts urging her to stay hidden. But the desperation in the man's voice pulled her feet toward her cabin.
• "Who's there?" she called out, trying to keep her voice steady despite the flutter of anxiety in her chest. She rushed back toward her home with every instinct on high alert. "What the heck is going on?" she muttered to herself.
• As she reached the back door of her cabin, she hesitated, listening closely. The man's voice continued to call out, more desperate this time. "Please! We need help!"
