Chapter 2 Successful Pregnancy

  • Lindsay was surprised. Mr. Moore was here yesterday, so why is he here again tonight?
  • That sent the people in the mansion into a frenzy as they prepared for his arrival.
  • Avery felt like her body couldn't endure the activity any longer. However, she found it very difficult to make a request again and again.
  • Cayden was wearing a pair of black pants and a white shirt. He entered the mansion and headed straight to Avery's bedroom.
  • She didn't have the guts to speak as she breathed lightly. The house was so empty that even a pin dropping on the ground would cause a loud noise.
  • Cayden's right arm was holding his coat while he raised his left hand. He stared deeply at Avery, whose eyes had been covered up by a piece of cloth, before he held the back of her neck. Then he gently hugged her closer to himself.
  • Avery stumbled a bit and froze.
  • Cayden lowered his head and stared at the young woman who was almost in his embrace. He gulped, pursed his lips, and focused his line of sight on her palm-sized, fair, clean face.
  • As the temperature around them rose, his sight slowly moved downward. Eventually, he found himself looking at her pink lips.
  • However, the contract very clearly stated that they mustn't kiss.
  • D*mn it! Now I'm really regretting putting down that condition. He bit his lip a little before uttering in a hoarse voice, “Get up. Let's start.”
  • He threw his coat down and turned off the lights as he carried her to the bed.
  • In the darkness, Avery lay below Cayden. Her eyebrows were furrowed as she bit the pillow to prevent herself from making lewd noises.
  • She silently accepted his penetration again and again.
  • Once it was done, he left.
  • She was so tired that she almost fainted, and she remained curled up on the bed for a very long time. The doctor said this helps increase the chances of conception. I wonder how true that is.
  • For many, many nights, Cayden would come to the mansion. Even if he was so busy with work that he would arrive very late into the night, he still came.
  • His driver, Grover Hayward, and Lindsay Sutton were a pair of middle-aged married couples. They knew how those things worked, and they really wanted to tell their employer that conception would need to take time. Otherwise, if pushed too far, it would only hurt his and Avery's bodies.
  • However, their employer was a prideful, cold-faced, and merciless boss who was notoriously difficult to talk to.
  • Therefore, both of them chose to shut their mouths on the matter.
  • All they could do was watch Avery be completely drained of her energy every day in order to cooperate with their energetic employer.
  • It was the last night of the month.
  • Cayden's performance really confused Avery. Sometimes he would be gentle; other times, he would use so much force that she wondered if he was doing it on purpose to hurt her.
  • Over time, she felt like her body was slowly betraying her as she drowned in pleasure.
  • After it was done, Cayden put on his clothes and an expensive watch on his wrist. He glanced at her, who was curling up and hiding in the blanket, and uttered coldly, “I hope you get pregnant soon.”
  • With that, he left.
  • Silence returned to the bedroom.
  • Avery was, naturally, afraid of the unfamiliar and unknown man who ravished her every night. It was as if a monster that lived inside his body had just been released! He's like an animal! I don't want to do this anymore! I'm so scared of him...
  • That night, he left the mansion much later.
  • She heard Cayden first exit the bedroom before standing outside of the mansion. Then, the sound of a lighter igniting echoed in the empty mansion.
  • All she needed to do was crawl up and stare out the window to see what he looked like. However, she was afraid that it was just a nightmare.
  • A month later, Avery finally saw two red strips on the early detection pregnancy test.
  • During the month she was anxiously waiting for the result of her pregnancy, she hadn't seen anyone else, including Cayden, aside from Lindsay.
  • If she didn't get pregnant that month, she would've needed to do the same thing with Cayden again.
  • It was why she was very happy when she learned she was pregnant.
  • All Avery wanted was to give birth to her child successfully and complete her task. Then, she would spend the rest of her days slowly forgetting that period of her life.
  • Soon, all of it would be in the past.
  • Once Cayden's men knew she was pregnant, he immediately arranged for her a detailed checkup.
  • When Lindsay came to negotiate, Avery asked for two things.
  • Firstly, Avery wanted to continue to go to school and study until her pregnancy became too obvious to hide. Then she would drop out of school and wait for the day she would give birth.
  • Secondly, she wanted to stay in the rented house for that period of time because she felt much more free living there.
  • The emptiness of the mansion made her feel uncomfortable.
  • “I need to get my employer's permission first before I can fulfill your requests. After all, you're carrying his biological child!” Lindsay then turned around and made a call. She stood next to the window on the highest floor of the hospital and mentioned Avery's request to Cayden.
  • A minute later, she hung up the phone and said, “Boss said he agreed to your request.”
  • Avery nodded and thanked her melancholically.
  • In the afternoon, she returned to her rented room and called the hospital. “Hello, is it Dr. Holden? Can I ask how's my dad's condition?”
  • “No need to worry,” the doctor replied. “I've received the money, and the liver will be arriving soon. The operation is being arranged, and it'll commence soon!”
  • “Thank you.” Avery didn't know what else to say. I used my body to get the money and the liver. Should I be happy about it? Sad about it? I'm not so sure, but I don't think so.
  • After the call ended, she lay on the desk and spaced out. Eventually, tears wetted her eyelashes.
  • Moments later, she used her palm to wipe away the tears flowing out of her eyes before forcing herself to smile. Why am I crying? I should be happy that Dad's going to be all right.
  • Five months later, her pregnancy was starting to get noticeable.
  • Lindsay handled the procedures for her to drop out of school.
  • When she exited the campus, the principal personally sent her out with a polite attitude and a handshake.
  • Avery was a little puzzled when she saw that in the distance. If someone like the principal is acting so politely and respectfully toward Lindsay, this must mean her boss, the child's father, is someone of impressive status. No, no, I shouldn't think about it. I don't want to.
  • She was standing next to the car when Lindsay approached her and said, “Don't worry. I told them you're dropping out of school for now because you're experiencing health issues. No one else knows that you're pregnant. We'll keep it a secret.”
  • Avery relaxed when she heard that.
  • During the afternoon, she went to visit her father.
  • If her father, Leonardo Rumpley, knew she bore a child for a man she didn't know at the age of eighteen, he would definitely oppose it.
  • Thankfully, it was fall, so she could wear thicker clothing to hide her belly.
  • Her tummy was still pretty obvious when she wore a thin sweater, so she wore an additional oversized cloak to cover it up.
  • Avery went to the floor her dad was staying, in the private hospital with the best medical technology in Ackleton.
  • She arrived at his ward by taking a familiar route. However, before she went in, she heard her stepmother, Henrietta Landry, talking.
  • “This is what I think, Leonardo. We have two daughters. While Milana isn't your biological daughter, she still grew up calling you Dad—” Before Henrietta could finish, Leonardo, who had been recuperating on the hospital bed for months, cut her off.
  • “No need to beat around the bush. You know I love you very much.” He stared.
  • “I know you love Milana and me...” Henrietta held his thin, boney hands and said softly, “You said you wanted to send Ery overseas to study after she graduated from high school, right? Milana's only two years older than Ery, yet she spends all day in the pub instead of studying! She really makes me worry, especially when she's the only biological child I have! Leonardo, I want her to join Ery to study overseas!”
  • Avery furrowed her eyebrow as she stood outside of the ward.
