Chapter 5 Contempt

  • “Can you really cure me?”
  • “Cut the chatter!”
  • With a slight twitch of his lips, Alexander stepped forward, a hint of hope in his heart. “If you can truly cure me, then I'll believe you can cure Ms. Zimmerman too.”
  • Idiopathic pulmonary hypertension, a rare cardiovascular disease, has no known cure. Once it flares up, it could potentially lead to acute heart failure, posing a serious threat to life.
  • If he can cure such a rare disease, perhaps he truly has the ability to heal Ms. Zimmerman.
  • Finnegan flipped his palm and produced a golden needle, which he swiftly plunged into Alexander's chest.
  • “What are you doing? Shouldn't you conduct tests and examinations before performing any kind of treatment?”
  • As the director of the hospital, Alexander had never heard of or seen Finnegan's method of treatment before.
  • “Shut up!” Finnegan snapped.
  • Before Alexander could continue questioning, Finnegan withdrew the golden needle. “Done!”
  • It didn't even last twenty seconds.
  • Alexander remained skeptical, but shortly, he realized that the chest discomfort that had plagued him for numerous years had indeed vanished, bestowing upon his entire body an unparalleled sense of relaxation.
  • A look of surprise flashed across his face as he quickly pulled out a small device resembling a clip and attached it to his finger. It was an oximeter, a device designed to assess the oxygen saturation level in the human body. Soon, a few numbers appeared on the device. Alexander exclaimed joyfully, “The oxygen saturation level has increased!” Then he hastily checked his blood pressure again. “It's really better. This is unbelievable!”
  • Finnegan turned around, casting a cold glance at the clerk. “Well, do you think I was spouting nonsense now?”
  • The clerk looked unconvinced. He wanted to say something more, but Alexander slapped him across the face. “You scoundrel, apologize to the young man immediately. If the young man doesn't forgive you, you can get lost today!”
  • “I...”
  • The clerk was utterly taken aback. The perks at General Hospital were unparalleled in the entire medical sector of Jadeborough. Furthermore, considering Alexander's reputation, if the clerk were to be let go, he would probably never secure a job again. That would imply he had entirely lost his means of sustenance.
  • He fell to his knees before Finnegan with a thud and raised his hand to slap himself twice. “I'm sorry for looking down on you. I've got a family, and I'm the sole breadwinner. Please forgive me this one time.”
  • Finnegan heaved a sigh. If you had known it would come to this, would you have looked down on me in the first place?
  • However, he couldn't be bothered to argue with such a petty individual.
  • He waved his hand and said, “All right, get up now.”
  • “Thank you, young man. Thank you!”
  • The clerk gratefully picked himself up from the ground.
  • “There's no time to lose, young man. Follow me to Ms. Zimmerman's ward first!”
  • Alexander eagerly led Finnegan toward the VIP ward where Bernice was located.
  • Inside the ward, Finnegan saw Bernice, who was lying on the bed as if in a deep slumber. Her nose was sculpted to perfection, complemented by brows that were elegantly arched, framing her face in a captivating beauty.
  • No wonder she's one of the Four Beauties of Jadeborough.
  • A middle-aged man was standing by the sick bed. Upon seeing Alexander, he immediately approached him. “Dr. Cooper, have you found a treatment plan for Bernie?”
  • This man was none other than Bernice's father, Patrick Zimmerman, the wealthiest man in Jadeborough.
  • Alexander turned to Finnegan and said, “Finn, please take a look at Ms. Zimmerman.”
  • Finnegan nodded, then strode toward Bernice's sick bed. Just as he was about to reach out to check on her, someone shouted, “Stop, don't touch my daughter!”
  • Finnegan turned around, only to see a beautiful middle-aged woman standing at the door.
  • “What are you doing? Don't you know my daughter is seriously ill and shouldn't be carelessly touched?”
  • The beautiful woman walked in, her face full of anger. She was Bernice's mother, Jennifer Chance.
  • “Why did you come back?” Patrick stepped forward. “This is Dr. Finnegan Larkin. He came to treat our daughter.”
  • “How old is he? And he's treating my daughter? Has he even graduated from medical school?”
  • A hint of contempt flashed across Jennifer's face when he saw that Finnegan was young. Clearly, she didn't take him seriously.
  • Patrick said somewhat awkwardly, “Mind your manners. Dr. Larkin was recommended by Dr. Cooper.”
  • “Dr. Cooper? Don't be fooled. How could someone so young possibly possess such impressive medical skills? Darling, let me introduce you to Dr. Griffin. He's a neurologist my friend invited from Lusterg.”
  • Only then did Patrick notice that a middle-aged doctor in his forties was standing at the door. Behind him were four or five assistants dressed in white lab coats, each carrying a variety of medical equipment.
  • Jennifer continued, “Dr. Griffin is a doctoral graduate from Upria and a leading neurologist in Lusterg. He has unique research in neurology and has published twenty to thirty papers in journals sponsored by the World Medical Association. Just a few days ago, Dr. Griffin received an invitation from the World Medical Association, and he would soon become a member there. Dr. Griffin is a busy man, but he has set aside many of his tasks to attend to our daughter's illness.”
  • Upon hearing the other party's litany of titles, Patrick quickly stepped forward and said, “Dr. Griffin, thank you for your hard work.”
  • Joel Griffin nodded with an air of pride and said, “You don't need to seek any other doctors, especially those who are clueless, for your daughter's illness as long as I'm here. Those frauds would do anything for money.”
  • Finnegan's face immediately turned somber when he heard that.
