Chapter 58 What The Witches Left Behind

  • Kaden didn’t sleep that night. He sat on the floor with Kael’s head in his lap, watching his brother’s chest rise and fall in shallow, uneven breaths. The black veins had stopped spreading, but they hadn’t faded either. They covered Kael’s skin like a web of dark lightning, pulsing faintly with each heartbeat.
  • Alina was curled up on the broken table, one hand resting on her stomach. She’d finally stopped glowing, but her skin still looked too pale, her breathing too quick. Every few minutes, she’d gasp and sit up, her eyes wide and panicked, before realizing where she was and lying back down.
  • The city outside had gone quiet. The fires were still burning, Kaden could see the orange glow through the cracked walls, but the screaming had stopped. Either people had found shelter or there was no one left to scream.
