Chapter 2 What Accident??!

  • VIENNA
  • “Do you think Kane knew about it?” a deep voice chuckled.
  • Kane?
  • Of course, he had something to do with this, I can’t even catch a break after our divorce.
  • My eyes slit open to the sound of the deep voices laughing. I see two blurry figures leaning on a lounge chair and the other hunched on a stool.
  • I groan from the sudden aches all over my body and I try to pull my arms out from its uncomfortable position but I feel the tight hold of a rod wrapped around my wrists.
  • They didn't need to make them so tight, I could feel the blood flow blocked right above the tie.
  • The chatters fall silent and I could feel the eyes of everyone in the room dawn on me.
  • “So, you’re finally awake, we were hoping you were still alive,” the stranger concurred. I looked up from my sprawled position to see his lengthy legs and a dark shadow illuminated by the light blocking his face.
  • “Look… Kane and I already had a divorce and he’s happily living with his new mistress. So, if you're using me to get to him, I can assure you you’re at a dead end,” I sighed.
  • I would’ve thought everyone already knew about our insolvency, he’s the Don, after all, news flies fast amongst the subordinates of the mafia.
  • “Where’s Edward?” I quipped, my senses on high alert as I frantically searched for him.
  • “Edward?” he asked sarcastically before bellowing in laughter. “Was that the name he gave you? That bastard is sly,” he chuckled.
  • These people are crazy, he has to be one of Kane's rivals. I remember him speaking about the Russian cartel he stole a shipload of drugs from but I thought they’d have less of a British accent.
  • “what're we going to do about my busted car?” Speaking of the devil, Edward walked in with a clean tee and a pair of blue jeans.
  • There were no cuts or scars spotted on his skin and his face looked perfectly unharmed like he hadn't just attacked in the driver's seat of his car.
  • “Ed…Edward?” I was stunned to find him free-moving, he stopped in his tracks and locked eyes with me.
  • His look of astonishment switched from that to amusement and the smirk on his lips only got darker.
  • “Hi princess,” he walked closer, kneeling before me. “I asked them not to be so harsh with you but they wouldn't listen to me,” he whispered.
  • He held my chin closely planting a chaste kiss on my cheek causing me to pull back as though acid just touched my skin.
  • “This couldn't be happening, are you working with them? But… I saw you. They slammed your head into the steering wheel before you passed out,” I blurted.
  • Different thoughts were swirling through my mind, who are these people? Why was Edward working with them? What was going on?
  • “What can I say? I’m one hell of an actor,” he laughed, causing the whole room to erupt.
  • “Relax, his name isn't Edward. It's Paco,” The guy from earlier intervened from the back.
  • Paco?
  • I tried to get a closer look at his face but the room was too dim for me to make out the faces of my abductors. A few men surrounded me but he was the only one standing behind in the shadows.
  • “Now that we’ve gotten that out in the air, I came here for something else. Caspian is ready to meet her and he asked me to get her personally,” paco cut the ties wrapped around my wrist before throwing me over his shoulder.
  • Caspian? Is that the big man himself? The person paco was so eager to betray Kane for, knowing just how deep trouble he’d be in when he found out.
  • paco carries me up an array of stairs, the awkward silence in the air practically killing me.
  • “Was it all a joke?” I asked, we had been having all sorts of fun for months now and I considered him to be my closest friend.
  • “You have to be kidding me, look at you, I wouldn't fuck you if they handed me a million dollars,” he snickered.
  • “But you did it just to satisfy your boss?” I scoffed. What silly game are they playing? He was in on this for months and was using me just to betray Kane.
  • “It’s more than that, this isn't just about a game between the mafia. It's something bigger,” he retorted.
  • “So, let me go, of all people know I am no use to Kane anymore. He doesn't want me, you're wasting your time,”
  • “Vienna, I’m not dumb, I know what you got after we left the villa. You have no idea how much you just changed the ball game,” I could hear the grin in his voice, as he had already won.
  • What have I gotten myself into?
  • I hear the opening of double doors and the uproar of a hundred men. paco carries me through the crowd and stops at a staircase probably leading to the top dog.
  • I catch the eyes of everyone fixed on me, silent whispers eroding through the room causing a ruckus.
  • He placed me on the floor before drawing on one knee with his head bowed. The room falls silent and everyone’s eyes are pointed to the seat on top.
  • “So, you’re the girl my brother got married to,” the mystery man spoke. He got off his throne and graciously came down towards me.
  • My eyes double in size with the sight of his face. His emerald green eyes looked deep into my soul. The sight of his tan skin and Auburn brown hair caused goosebumps on my skin before his pink lips twisted into an all too familiar smirk.
  • He was a spitting image of Kane.
  • “Welcome my love, I would love to hear more about your pregnancy for my brother,” he smirked with my pregnancy test displayed between his fingers.
