• Carmela let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding, her body shaking with relief. She turned to Pedro, tears welling up in her eyes. "Thank you," she said, her voice trembling. "I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't been here."
• Pedro gave her a gentle smile. "You don't have to thank me," he said. "I'm just glad I could help. Are you okay?"
• Carmela nodded, trying to compose herself. "I'm okay," she said, her voice gaining strength.
