• The wedding was to take place the next day, and today I had to make sure that everything was in order. Every detail had to be perfect, not just for the ceremony itself, but for the message this wedding would send to our allies and enemies. We needed to be clear, strong, and, above all, we needed to appear trustworthy.
• I spent the morning going over the preparations, the supplies had arrived as planned, and quality wines had been stored. The decorations were being adjusted in the large garden at the back of the palace, where the wedding would take place. I watched the servants come and go, carrying fine fabrics, positioning candles, and checking the banquet, all under my appraising gaze.
