Chapter 3
- I left Claire and Lucy's place at dawn. That was the only way I could get back home before anyone noticed I wasn't home last night, though no one cared about where I went or how I lived my life.
- I tiptoed through the back door into the kitchen and after making sure there was no one, I found my way to my room.
- "I understand." I heard as I walked closer to Olivia's room.
- Her door was slightly opened and I peeped into it. She seemed to be on a call and the look on her face looked disturbing.
- What could be going on? I wondered.
- Olivia stared at me but said nothing.
- "I will get back to you," she said and ended the call.
- "Hi," I muttered with a smile.
- "Hi," she answered.
- I had expected her to ask me if I was just coming back but she did not. Instead, she closed her door to my face and I shrugged.
- I should not have expected much. I thought.
- I found my way to my room and lay down on the bed.
- I could get a little sleep before heading out. I thought, yawning slightly.
- Yesterday was fun with Claire and Lucy. When we got to their place, we played some games and watched a nice movie while mulching some popcorn. Claire chatted with us about some of her recent sex escapades and we could not help but laugh. It was fun spending time with those girls. They are more than family to me.
- I smiled. I can't wait to see them again.
- I adjusted myself on the bed and closed my eyes to sleep. There was a sudden knock on my door and I groaned.
- "Who is there?" I asked.
- "Olive? Are you awake?" I heard.
- I knew it was my mom but wondered why she was at my door.
- "Yes. Is there a problem?" I asked.
- I did not make any attempt to open the door for her because I knew she would not be coming into my room. She had not done that in a long time and I did not care about it.
- "You should get dressed, we are going to pick your sister's wedding dress today," she replied and I furrowed my brows.
- What does that have to do with me? I already made plans to meet with Claire and Lucy for lunch and we are going to an art exhibition after that.
- "Do I have to come with you? I don't think I am needed in that place."
- "That is the least you can do for your sister," she replied and I scoffed.
- Why do I need to do that for my sister? What has she done for me?
- "I already made plans with my friends. I can't..."
- "Are you going to choose your friends over your sister?"
- I rolled my eyes. "You chose my sister over me" I murmured.
- "Olive, I am talking to you!"
- "Mom, I am not trying to choose my friends over Olivia but I can't..."
- "Olive, your sister will be getting married in a few days. The least you can do is to be there for her. Is that too much to ask?"
- I groaned. Why is she trying to make me feel guilty when I have done nothing wrong? Was I not told to stay invincible until the wedding was over?
- I sighed. "I will try to be there for her, but I can't..."
- "Cancel every plan you have with your friends and get dressed. You are coming with us."
- "I am not getting dressed, Mom. I am not..."
- "Meet us in the living room, Olive. And you better not do anything funny," she said and I threw a pillow across the room.
- "Ahh!" I screamed.
- Why do I have to go with them to get her dress?
- I am not her maid of honor nor am I chosen as one of the bridesmaids. I have been told to remain invisible and not cause them any trouble. That is what I have been doing. I stood up from the bed and picked up the pillow from the ground. I threw it on the bed and went to change into more comfortable clothes, before joining them.
- "What's in for breakfast, Hannah?" I asked the cook.
- "There is no breakfast," my mom replied and I furrowed my brows.
- "W-why would there not be breakfast?"
- "Your sister is late for her appointment. We can't afford to waste more time," she replied and I scoffed.
- I will have to stay hungry because of Olivia. Really?
- "I am not leaving this house without breakfast," I replied sitting on the dining chair.
- "Olive, what are you up to this morning" my dad asked, walking down the stairs with Olivia.
- Am I always up to something? I thought, scoffing slightly.
- "Mom said there is no breakfast because her dearest daughter is late for her appointment," I replied with an eye roll.
- "Olive, I know you are hungry right now but can you at least think about your sister for now," my dad replied and I scoffed.
- What was I expecting from him? They have always done things in favor of my sister.
- I nodded my head, standing up. "I should consider her," I muttered walking to the door.
- "Hannah, did you pack some food for Olivia?" I heard my mom say and I sighed.
- It has always been Olivia or no one else.
- I turned. "Hannah, make sure to pack mine too or I won't be leaving this house," I said.
- Hannah stared at my mom and she nodded.
- "I will get them ready," Hannah replied.
- I left the house and waited outside for them.
- "Olive, you will be driving," my mom said when she walked out of the house with Olivia.
- "Can I have my food?" I replied.
- "You do not plan to eat while driving. Do you?"
- "If I do not eat, where do you want me to get the strength to drive from?" I asked. "At least I deserve to eat even if I have to remain invisible," I muttered, as I snatched the lunch bag from Hannah.
- "That belongs to Olivia," she said, trying to take the bag from me.
- "She can have it," Olivia answered and I scoffed.
- "I do not want what belongs to you, okay?". I returned the bag I had taken from Hannah and took the other one from her. "I love what belongs to me" I mumbled before bringing out the sandwich in the box and began to mulch on it.
- Olivia sighed but said nothing.
- "Olive, get into the car. We do not have time to waste," my mom said. "And you better drop that down."
- I sighed and returned the sandwich to the bag. I entered the car and started the engine. Olivia and my mom sat in the back seat.
