• I climbed into the backseat of the car and slammed the door hard. From the window, I watched Gabriel and Julia step back into their car. Gabriel leaned over to murmur something, and Julia threw her head back, laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world.
• Even from this distance, I could tell they were mocking me. Gabriel always had that smirk, that smug tilt of his head like he thought he was untouchable. It made me so angry that I gritted my teeth.
