Chapter 6 Back To Where She Started

  • Landon smirked, staring at Kimberly as she stormed back towards him in anger. "You think I would stoop so low to be your maid? Do I look like a maid to you?" Kim roared in anger. "No, you don't. But it looks like you don't have a choice, considering your credentials and..." He uttered, looking at her from head to toe.
  • "There is always a choice! And none of it involves being your maid!" She smacked, rushing back to the door when she remembered her cash was still with him. She stopped, biting her lower lips in regret before turning to look at him again.
  • "My money." She said stretching forth her hand and walking to his table. "Is that how to talk to someone that saved your an*s from trekking all the way home?" Landon asked, standing up and walking to her with the USD 25 In his hands.
  • "Haven't you done enough! Why are you frustrating me!" Kim yelled and before she knew it, tears rolled down her face and Landon arched his brows. "Woah. Didn't see that coming." He said with a smirk, and Kim looked away feeling so ashamed of herself.
  • "Give me the money, and let me go." She muttered with her palm stretched towards him.
  • Landon, getting irritated about the whole thing already, dipped his hand in his pocket and pulled out some money, added it to the USD 25, and placed it on her palm. "There you go. Get yourself dinner with it. I think I am generous enough." He said and walked back to his seat with a grin.
  • Kim looked at her palm and saw there was more than her money there. She looked up at Landon and saw he was enjoying himself.
  • She picked up her own USD 25 and threw the rest back at him, making it scatter all over the tiled floor.
  • "I am not begging for your filthy money a*shole!" She smacked, finally storming out of the office leaving Landon dumbstruck. "Did she just return that huge amount of money she certainly needs because of her ego?" Landon asked himself, unbelievably. Kimberly walked out of the company, fuming in anger, everyone that passed by her noticed this and they couldn't help but murmur things to themselves.
  • A side of Kimberly wanted that money because she needed it. But the order side, which was Kimberly Johnson's real side would never take sh*t from anyone. The last thing she wanted was for her to owe that b**ch. She preferred to go to bed without food than make Landon feel she needed his help.
  • She got to the Garage before she knew it, and took a cab going into Golden City. Right there in the cab, she pulled out her phone and began to check out her messages. She needed something to get her mind off the bad day she had. She got only two messages, it wasn't that surprising though. She wasn't the social type.
  • The first was from her ‘way too busy to visit’ friend, and the other from her mother. She decided to check the one from her friend first. She opened it and saw she was just asking about her and that was all. "I am not so good, Danielle, can you please call me? I am yet to recharge my line, and I don't think I will be doing that soon." She replied, saying out the words as she typed them.
  • She went ahead to check her mum's own and read to herself. "Kimberly you need to send some money to the house, your father is in the hospital and he needs a kidney transplant. I have sent all I have on his bills, and there is still a lot more to pay. We need money to save your father's life!" She read inwardly and tears rolled down her eyes, some teardrops dropping on the screen of her phone.
  • "Oh God, why is my life so miserable? Where do I get money for father's bills." She mumbled, drawing the attention of the driver. "Ma'am, are you ok?" He asked, looking at her through the mirror of his car. "Yeah. I am fine." She replied in hesitation, cleaning her eyes, but the tears won't just stop dropping.
  • She threw her phone in her bag in frustration, not knowing what to do. All she could think of was if she didn't return that money, she would have sent it to mother. And she couldn't even think of going back to him, that would be a slap on her face, and she wasn’t going to let that happen.
  • "Sir, can I use your cellphone for a few minutes please?" She asked the driver who nodded, drawing out his phone from his pockets. "Thanks," Kim said. She dialed her mother's number on his phone and put a call across to her.
  • "Hey, Mom. I got your text." She said as soon as her mother picked up. "Hey, do you have the money now? I am in the hospital presently." She replied, staring into the ward through the door, looking at her helpless husband. "Not yet mother. I went out to search for a job today, but unfortunately, I couldn't get one. I am so sorry, but I have nothing on me right now." Kim replied and her mother got frustrated.
  • "Why are you doing this to us! Why do you want to be useless to us and yourself? Kim, you are not making us happy! You are making us regret all we have done for you, to make you a better person Kimberly." Her mother said out of pain and anger. Kimberly burst into more tears, covering her mouth with her palm and shutting her eyes as she wept.
  • "I am sorry Mom." She replied, weeping seriously. "Be sorry for yourself, for being useless to yourself. You know your grades can't secure a job for you, yet you still waste time carrying it all around!" Mrs. Johnson said, and Kimberly got exactly where she was going.
  • "Mother, I am not getting married to Alexander. I don't love him." Kim said. "You don't have to love him! We need his money! And you can help us for once in your life if you say yes to him! Think about it, and don't call if you want to be helpful." She smacked and cut off the call.
  • Kimberly was so down and cried like it was her last. "Ma'am, please take it easy okay?" The driver said and she nodded, stretching his phone to him. "Thank you so much," Kim said, and he nodded. "Instead of crying, I would advise you to do something to solve your problems. Crying isn't the best thing to do now." He said, and Kim raised her head to look at him.
  • "Thank you." She said and he nodded. After some minutes of silent sobbing for Kimberly, the car stopped and she looked up. "We are here." The driver said to Kim, and she smiled faintly. "Thank you." She said dipping her hand in her bag to give him his money but then he stopped her.
  • "It's fine, Ma'am. I would be a monster to accept that from you after hearing all that." He said and this made Kimberly cry even more. "Thank you so much. I never thought I would eat tonight." She said happily and sad at the same time.
  • "Get yourself something to eat. You can't think with an empty stomach." He said, and she nodded smiling. "Thank you so much." She said alighted, and he nodded. As soon as she was out, she waved him goodbye and he waved her too before finally driving off.
  • The smile on her face faded as she stood in front of her house and stared at it. "Back to where I started." She thought, walking into the house.
