Chapter 22

Despite Damien’s hard work, Jane still managed to eat a few more bites. As she got up to clear the table, Damien stopped her and offered to do it himself. Jane insisted that he rest since he had cooked the rice, but Damien was touched by her kindness and smiled at her. They were a close and loving couple, with an ordinary yet warm life together. Damien knew that he would make their relationship official soon.
After cleaning up the kitchen, Jane found Damien sitting on the sofa in the living room, reading a newspaper. He had already changed into his nightgown after taking a bath, but his hair was still wet. Jane expressed her concern about him catching a cold, and Damien teasingly asked if she cared about him. Jane challenged him, asking if there was anything wrong with caring, and Damien was flattered by her words. Jane thanked him for his help and suggested that they try to be friends since they would be living together for two years. Damien was impressed by her decision to make their relationship more natural.
Using a word of friendship appeared to have brought them closer, but it simultaneously created an insurmountable divide between them.
